The Ponyo On The Cliff By The Sea Story...

The score for the movie Ponyo was written by Joe Hisaishi and represents the ninth soundtrack he composed with Hayao Miyazaki.

In Japan, Ponyo's theme song, known as Gake no Ue no Ponyo, came out before the movie. It was recorded by a duo who is known as Fujioka Fujimaki and an eight-year old named Nozomi Ohashi. When the movie was released, the song climbed steadily until it ranked 3rd on the Oricon Charts.

The English version of the theme song released in North America was done by Frankie Jonas and Noah Cyrus, the duo who voiced Sosuke and Ponyo in the North American version of the movie. The music also received a lot of media attention and positive reviews in the western world. However, it was not without controversy...some feel that the Japanese film was ruined by the 'Disney' treatment that it received on our side of the world.
