Don't Cook Your Popcorn in the Microwave
I know for most people, there is microwave popcorn, and you won't have to worry about how to do this or that. But there were no microwaves in my grandma's time and the popcorn tasted far better. So I will share her secret with you here. Try it and come and let me know how it went. I would love to hear your feedback.
WORLD'S BEST POPCORN RECIPE

- Serves: 4
- Prep Time: 10min.
- Total Time: 10min.
What you will need for this recipe is a big pan with lid. The best option is a stainless steel pan, but teflon will work just as well. Also, I prefer to use either regular vegetable or canola oil or Orville Redenbacher's Popping & Topping Buttery Flavor Popcorn Oil for this recipe. I tried it with olive oil, and the popcorn had a heavy olive oil flavor which I didn't like. I like olive oil with salads. Do not try this with butter because the popcorn doesn't pop as fluffy and it is not soft enough.
Ingredients
- Vegetable oil (enough to cover the bottom of the pan
- very thin layer)
- White or yellow popping corn (enough to cover the bottom of the pan
- one layer)
- salt to taste
Instructions
The first step is crucially important as it will help all the popcorn to pop big and fluffy. Pour a thin layer of vegetable oil in you pan on medium to high heat. Add only a couple popping corn in it and close the lid. Do not add all the corn at this point. Once you hear (or in my case I use a pan with a glass lid so I can see it too) those two pop, then add all the popping corn. Just enough to cover the bottom of the pan, do not add too much.
I add the salt right after I pour the corn in the pan and stir it fast for a good 10 or 15 seconds. You have to be fast here because the corn will start popping quite soon so you want to hurry up , stir and close the lid. You can shake the pan lifting it from the handles, that will help all sides of corn get equal amount of hot oil. Once you hear the popping do not lift the pan, or the lid, and do not stir. All the corn will start popping at the same time, like machine gun.
You will know when they're done when the popping stops. Get yourself a big deep bowl, and enjoy your delicious, fluffy popcorn! you can also use butter spray to give it a buttery taste, but it's optional.

THE BEST POPCORN PAN / POPPER
Wabash Valley Farms 25008 Whirley-Pop Stovetop Popcorn Popper
Amazon Price: $19.89 (as of 06/04/2012)![]()
This reminds my of my grandma's popcorn popper. It is so easy to use and the best part is when it's done, pouring the popcorn into a bowl is a piece of cake. You can lift the lid half way. This is a simple detail maybe but it makes a world of difference.
