The Bizarre World of Pop Surrealism Art

I have watched pop surrealism gain momentum over the last decade in a much more profound way than in the earlier days of R. Crumb and Ed Roth. Pop surrealism is a special kind of art that expresses itself boldly.

The styles within the movement vary so greatly that you could very easily only care for one or two artists and scoff at the rest. Personally I think that every pop surrealist artist has something to contribute to the movement that is worth taking in. Hopefully you will too!

What is Pop Surrealism?

Pop Surrealism, or lowbrow art as it is sometimes referred to, is an art movement that rose from the late 70's in southern California. It mixes influences from the punk era, underground comics, and other various street cultures.

Most pop surrealism is humorous and/or sarcastic. It often mixes complete polar elements such as a sweet little girl in a pink dress hand in hand with a large, frightening animal. Take a look at some of the popular artists I have listed below and you will get a better sense of how extraordinary the world of pop surrealism is.
