Popcuts - Great Indie and Underground Music!
This lens is about my new favorite net-discovery. A site that operates much like squidoo, where the user gains a percentage of the royalties. When a user buys a song, they make a portion of that back after other people buy the same song.

Free Music with a catch
While surfing around one day I stumbled upon a site called Popcuts . This site is an Indie or Underground music site for unsigned or beginning artists to promote their music. The artist uploads their music and sets an amount they wish to receive on the royalties.
The host site takes a percentage and the rest goes to the buyers. The sooner you purchase a song, the more profit percentage you acquire. You get your percent of the sale for each following purchase of the song you own.
When I saw this, being a business man, I was instantly intrigued. Maybe discover my new favorite band and make some money on the side? I must delve further.
First thing you will learn is sadly Popcuts only offers credit on more songs. When you make money you can use that money to buy more songs. The movers and shakers within Popcuts have stated numerous times that Cash out option will be available in time, but not currently.
So knowing I wouldn't get rich (Yet)of listening to new music, I decided to go ahead and test the waters. I wanted to see if I could really get free music. I deposited $20.00 and started looking into songs.
I wanted to appeal to as many genres as possible, although HipHop and R&B seem to be the biggest money making genres to buy into. I picked up a little bit of everything, trying to pick up new releases in each category to maximize my profit margin.
My 20 bucks was quickly spent with 20 new songs to enjoy. A couple have made it onto my regular playlist with all of my "Real" artists.

Other Neat Popcuts Stuff
After my 20 dollars was spent on new and upcoming artists, I continued to play around a bit with the web page. Every person who purchases music makes a profile. Each profile keeps track of songs you have purchased and how much you have made off each one.
For somebody who believes in freedom to do what you want with your own property, the fact that all music is DRM Free is a big deal for me. There is no limit to the number of devices or computers you can play your music on and you can make as many copies as you wish unlike Itunes who lock your song down and tell you how and when you can play something you have already purchased.
The social networking of the site allows you to add friends or TrendSetters as they are referred to on the website. The site ranks the top TrendSetters by how much credit they have accrued from others following their purchases. You can tag others who share similar tastes as yours so you are notified when they purchase new songs. ">

Trend Setter
I'm currently listed at #11 on the top 20 Trend Setters on the site with a little over $10.00 of original 20 investment dollars returned. My Popcuts Profile has a list of the songs I've purchased along with a message function. If you manage to find this lens on squidoo and follow it to Popcuts feel free to message me and check out my music. If you purchase some of my songs let me know and Ill try and return the favor if you happen to have good tastes in music :)

New Artists on Popcuts
Alexa Ray Joel
Popcuts has a new artist displaying her work on their servers. Alexa Ray Joel is upcoming artist with music deep in her roots. The child of musical artist Billy Joel and super model Christy Brenkley. This pianist has a voice that touches your soul and a soft finger on the piano. Her songs sound like a slightly more upbeat Norah Jones .
You can find samples of her songs on Alexa's Myspace Page
You can read up more on her on her personal webpage at Alexa Ray Joel
