Popular Kids Book Series

My kids love the Mr Men book series. They love to read it over and over again. Quite often, they will ask me to read along because they want to share the funny parts with me.

After all, good things are meant to be shared.

I would often tease my girl and remind her not to be Little Miss Stubborn or Little Miss Late while she would say that I am Little Miss Forgetful and Little Miss Busy.

If chosen carefully, books can be a great way for children to learn about feelings, emotions and helps them to see the world from their perspective. These Little Miss book series can be used to remind children about good or bad characteristics in a person.

This is for very young children from ages 3-5 who are just beginning to figure out how to read. Bob Books were designed to help children discover how letters become words, by introducing new letter sounds repeatedly. The stories fit young learners with short attention spans.

The Help Me Be Good Book Series as the title suggests teach kids how to deal with conflicts, emotions and situations like bullying, lying, being rude, being wasteful etc. I love this series! Whenever there is an issue I need to discuss with the children, I just need to pull out a book, read and discuss!

Dr Seuss's funny rhymes makes the beginner reader want to read them over and over again. There is something about rhyming that just makes my kids want to read the Dr Seuss book series repeatedly.

If you have a Thomas the Tank Engine fan at home, the Thomas the Tank Engine book series will certainly get him or her reading.

The Geronimo Stilton Books are my girl's favourite. I must admit I enjoy it too. I love how the book is written with different colored and styles of fonts. It makes reading the book so much more interesting.

My boy of 7 does not quite understand some of it but my girl who is 9 enjoys reading Geronimo Stilton tremendously.

If the Geronimo Book Set above is too heavy with 41 titles in all, you may prefer to start off with this set of 3 Geronimo Stilton books instead. They make a great gift too.

Another one of my daughter's favorite series is the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books series.

Written in the form of a "Dear Diary" style together with lots of doodles, this fun series is sure to captivate the young reader. I especially love the Wimpy Do It Yourself Book because it encourages creativity and writing skills by allowing the child to fill in the diary entries and complete the comics within the book. At first I thought it was a bit pricey to have a book with little inside but after seeing what my daughter has written and drawn in hers, I think it is well worth it.

The A to Z Mysteries series is yet another favorite of my daughter. She wanted to collect and read every book in the series.

My thoughts about series and collections is that while it is a good thing to encourage your child to read by buying them books from a series, you must make sure that they actually read read the book, instead of merely collecting for the sake of collecting them!

A classic for children and adults this 7 book Chronicles of Narnia Movie Tie-in Box Set includes the complete series from the Chronicles of Narnia with titles in the following order 1. The Magician's Nephew; 2. The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe; 3. The Horse and His Boy; 4. Prince Caspian; 5. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader; 6. The Silver Chair; 7. The Last Battle.

My children are currently watching the 5th Movie in the Harry Potter series. When they are done watching them all, I shall buy them the Harry Potter Books Set.

However, I shall wait till they are a little older, probably when they are in their teens. Though the stories are full of wizardry and magic which all children love, I think this series has a dark side which is not so suitable for very young children. So this one, will have to wait for now but for later, I think they are great and a must have for any kid.

Old is Gold!

They say old is gold and it is especially true for books. I love the old fashioned writings for some books. They are classic and can never be replaced by computer games and many of the handheld devices of today. We just have to teach our kids the beauty of reading and being brought into a whole new world through books and words.

The Box Car Children Mysteries are one of those timeless books used to be enjoyed by children from years ago and can be enjoyed by children of today.

I think I want to read these Famous Five by Enid Blyton books all over again. I had so much fun reading them as a child.

Five on a Treasure Island, Five Run Away Together, Five Go Adventuring Again and more. It will certainly raise the adventurous spirit in any child.

Secret Seven Books by Enid Blyton is just as much fun and adventurous as the Famous Five Series.

The Secret Seven books have a brand new look now but they are a good read as always.

The Hardy Boys Series has 66 books in all. This Hardy Boys Starter Set is a good introduction to the series.

I don't think boys will find the Hardy Boys Books old fashioned. Adventure is never old fashioned.

Secret of Red Gate Farm, Secret of Shadow Ranch, Mystery at Lilac Inn, Bungalow Mystery, Hidden Staircase, Secret of the Old Clock .... with these titles, you can be sure the Nancy Drew Books won't be short of adventure.

Little Girls who love to dance and play pretend princess especially those who attend ballet classes will love the Magic Ballerina books.

Some books series have different levels for children to progress in their reading. Ladybird Read It Yourself series does just that, starting from level 1 for children who need help with reading up to Level 4 for independent readers. I was fortunate to have almost the whole set passed down to me by a relative.

Do you accept hand me down books? I do, and I hand down my books to the next younger child of a relative or friend to pass on the love for reading.

The first level in the Ladybird Read it Yourself Series has are great for the beginner reader with classic titles like The Billy Goats Gruff, The Ugly Duckling, The Little Red Hen, The Magic Porridge Pot, Goldilocks and The Three Bears and The Enormous Turnip. Little ones will love being able to read for themselves these timeless tales they have probably heard from their parents and caregivers.

Though not really considered a chapter book because the stories do not continue, however they come in a set which makes it ideal for a gift to encourage reading.

This Junie B.Jones Box Set is the first box set ever in the Junie B.Jones series that little girls love. It is a great introduction to the sassy Junie B. Jones.

The Magic Tree House Series is surely to satisfy the inquisitive child who always wants to know WHY?! This Magic Treehouse Boxed Set, Books 1-28 is a wonderful collection for fans of the Magic Tree House Series. It will make the perfect gift for the reader as well as the reluctant reader.

Recommended for any reader who loves puzzling, and suspenseful books, or one who just adores reading a series. Each with a different story it can be read on its own but is best read in sequence.

Little House by Laura Ingalls Wilder is a great set of series books that has brought reading pleasure to many children for generations. It gives a good description of American History.

The Complete Anne of Green Gables Boxed Set is truly a series book that can be enjoyed by girls especially those in the range of 9 to 12 years. The stories are poignant and charming. Anne of the Green Gables is a classic yet it continues to be enjoyed by children today.

Ronald Dahl, the children's fantasy book writer with best selling titles like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach has been referred as one of the greatest storytellers for children of the 20th Century usually writes short stories with a surprising twist at the end.
