Porcupine Tree Rocks!

It is impossible to describe Porcupine Tree, except to say that their music is addictive. They can't really be categorized into a specifc genre. Some call them progressive, and some metal, and others rock. They are a little bit of everything. Each CD is unique and exciting, and complex, but always entertaining.

I discovered their music in 2003, when they toured with Opeth. I heard that they were fantastic, so I went to the show with an open mind. The performance blew me away and I ran to the merch table to buy up whatever they were selling. Since then I have been unable to get enough of their music. Porcupine Tree music takes up nearly half of the space on my iPod. Their songs find their way into all of my playlists and I make a point to see them whenever they come to town.

Fortunately, my entire family enjoys their music, and my 13 year old daughter went to her first Porcupine Tree show in 2005. While most of her friends call Green Day their favorite band, Sarah says her favorite is Porcupine Tree. I am so proud.

I love to hear from other Porcupine Tree fans and I welcome your comments and questions about this lens. This is just my little way to spread the word about the music I love.

Lightbulb Sun Remaster

Fear of a Blank Planet - Nil Recurring

Fear of a Blank Planet and Nil Recurring are masterpieces! You may order the U.S. releases below, although you may have better luck checking your local music stores for Limited Edition releases. The official Porcupine Tree website has also posted a link to preview Fear of a Blank Planet.

** Don't miss this new promo video for Nill Recurring

Fear of a Blank Planet

US Limited Edition release - 2 disc set, which contains the stereo CD and a 5.1 surround sound mix of the album on DVDV.

Fear of a Blank Planet

The standard U.S. edition of the CD.

Nil Recurring

This EP features extra tracks from the Fear of a Blank Planet recording sessions and it's fantastic.

The Essentials

Porcupine Tree has an impressive back catalog to choose from. These are some of the essential releases that provide an introduction to their music.

Arriving Somewhere (2pc)

Finally! The brand new DVD release from Porcupine Tree. This was recorded in Chicago in 2005 and it is a fantastic show! I highly recommend this to anyone with even a mild interest in the band. This is a 2 DVD set, and the price is crazy low - cheaper than most CDs go for.

Deadwing

Deadwing is based on a screenplay of a ghost story by Steven Wilson. It's also the best selling Porcupine Tree album to date. The CD alternates between hard and heavy and softer melodies. Guests on this recording include Adrian Belew of King Crimson and Mikael Åkerfeldt of Opeth. The 12 minute epic, Arriving Somewhere But Not Here is the reason to buy this CD, but every track is brilliant.

In Absentia

This was my first Porcupine Tree CD and it served as a suitable introduction. In Absentia is heavy, and weird, and wild, and amazing. Everyone should have this CD in their library and listen daily.

Signify

This is the two disc re-release of Signify plus Insignificance. This is the version you want, and lately it's the same price as the single CD version. It's best enjoyed from start to finish as a wonderful musical journey. This is one of those CD's I'd want if I was trapped on a desert island.

Stupid Dream

This is the two-disc remastered version of this rare CD. I can't believe this is available here for less than a standard single disc CD. The second disc includes a rare video, photo gallery, and a 5.1 surround mix with special bonus tracks. This is a must buy release!

Arriving Somewhere DVD

I recall the day that "The precious" arrived in my mailbox. Like any rabid Porcupine Tree fan, I pre-ordered the limited edition the moment I received the announcement. I was pleased to receive number 543/2000. I was however, unprepared for the experience of enjoying this DVD on our home theater. I was there in the audience during this tour with my husband and our daughter. It was a fantastic show and it was so wonderful to be able to re-live the experience from the comfort of home. This DVD really made me appreciate the money that we spent on our AV equipment.

I highly recommend this DVD and I wish I could pass these out on the street to tell everyone about the wonders of Porcupine Tree. :)

Check Out the Arriving Somewhere DVD.

MusicMadness

Never heard of them before. I tried watching the youtubes on your page, but their no longer available. I watched their "Fear Of A Blank Planet" video on youtube proper, and it was kinda cool. Depressing, but cool. Some great lyrics . . . like "your mouth should be boarded up" . . . ha
