Porsche 911 Turbo - Top Sports Car

Ranked #24,746 in Cars, #1,249,401 overall

The Iconic Sports Car Improves with Age

I've lusted after the 911 since I was old enough to appreciate cars. The timeless lines and the impressive legacy leaves most car dynasties in the dust. Like most German car brands Porsche has a great sense of engineering excellence. But it's hard to argue that Porsche sets the standard for near fanatical dedication to making their cars the best engineered and highest performance sports cars on the market. The 911 Turbo (sometimes called the 930) is the crown jewel of the Porsche lineup.

Overview of the 2008 911 Turbo

Stats and figures on the latest generation of Porsche's Best

The restyled 911 Turbo is equipped with a 3.6-liter six-cylinder engine that utilizes 24 valves. The engine is mated to a N/A six-speed transaxle. This has resulted in an increase in horsepower and torque over the 2007 version.

The 911 uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The car uses coil and coil springs front and rear respectively.

Statistics

The dimensions of the 911 Turbo are 71.20 inches wide by 175.60 inches long. It sits 51.20 inches off the ground. It seats a standard four passengers, with 2 doors. The wheelbase of 92.50 allows for extra leg room for the rear passengers.

The standard warranty period for the 911 is 48 months, or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. This is standard in the coupe market.

The listed retail price in 2008 (MSRP) was $83,800, with a dealer invoice cost of an industry-high price. This price is in line with the industry average price for a two-door Coupe.

Fuel Efficiency

The fuel system for the 2008 911 is a Bosch Motronic system, running on gasoline . The fuel is regulated by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design.

The 2008 911 gets 24 - 25 miles/gallon on the highway and only 17 in the city. This is below average for a coupe car.

What We Think of the Porsche 911

The 2008 model year was very successful for the Porsche 911. The introduction of several trim levels (along with the Turbo version) meant that buyers could find the version that best suited their needs.
