The Porsche 911 Will Always Rule!!!

Ever since my eyes got locked into the rear end of this magnificent piece of german craftsmanship, little did I know that emotional feelings could develop between mankind and machines...

A Brief History Of The Passion

Porshe 911 first steps....

Ferdinand "Butzi" Porsche, grandson of the brand's founder created the "saga". The 911 was supposed to replace the 356, and Butzi won the contest over the 356 designer Erwin Kommenda.

While Kommenda presented drawings on paper showing the modified 356, Porsche presented a clay crafted model. Porsche showed a wide dashboard with 5 instruments: the on switch to the left of the wheel so the driver could start the engine with the left hand and get on first gear with the right hand inmmediately... clearly an sports car.

So, the engine couldn't be a Volkswagen. Ferdinand Piëch was in charge to develop the heart of the 911. He came up with a boxer 1991 cc - 130 HP engine. It had more interior space, disc brakes and a brand new suspension.

The brand new Porsche 901 (original name) was presented in Paris back in 1964 raising a huge buzz. Peugeot filed a complaint demanding the change of the 911 denomination since the french automaker had been using the "0" in between their model denominations. I think it made Porsche a big favor.

The first 911 was sold in 1965 along with the Targa model (topless!). In 1969, the 911 said bye bye to the carburators to step in the injection era. In 1973 the world was blessed with the launch of the 911 Carrera ("racing" in Spanish,) the RS, RST and RSR versions were developed, being the latter a true racing thoroughbred. In 1974 Porsche launched the legendary 911 Turbo, and it has never lost relevance.

And you know what? It'll never will...

BMW M6 vs. Porsche 911 Turbo from standing start

BMW M6 uses Launch Control. Revs wihout a gear up tp around 4000 rpm then when I release the shift the car launches and ... all » shifts automatically all the way up to the limit. Gas pedal is depressed all the way. Continental tyres, worn tyres and cold ground (below 8 degrees) did make the 1st gear spin until second gear. We race a standard Porsche 911 Turbo (996). This is taken place at Koenigsegg facilities in Sweden. See the full report on m6board.com in the autumn of 2005. Love anything that's Porsche. :)

Anyway a little critique: I think the lens would be greater if instead of the unrelated products (dvds and all), you provide pics and more info about the 911. And oh, check out eBay motors for used 911s. That would be a better product to sell. :)

Anyway, nice lens!
