Portable Air Compressor

Air Compressors are gadgets that alter the power in an electric motor or an engine powered by gasoline or diesel into kinetic energy. It is through air compressing and pressurizing of air that is done after which the air can be released in quick surges. A Portable Air Compressor makes certain tasks easier to accomplish.

One of the uses of compressors is supplying clean air at high pressure to top up gas cylinders such as those used by campers. There are several ways that air can be compressed and they can all be classified as either negative displacement compressors or positive displacement compressors. The latter forcefully directs air into a chamber with reduced volume which affects compression. Piston types work by this principle where air is pumped into an air chamber using constantly moving pistons. Single directional valves conduct air into the chamber where the compression takes place.

Another kind of compressor that uses positive displacement is the rotary screw one. Here, dual matching helical screws rotate such that one screw leads the other into a chamber whose volume reduces with the turning of the screws. There are also vane compressors that are enabled by a slotted rotor with varied blade placement to channel air into a chamber for compression.

There is also the negative displacement compressor and centrifugal ones fall in this category. These ones are run using the centrifugal force that is produced by a revolving impeller that brings up and then lowers the air retained in the chamber which created air pressure.

The Portable Air Compressor should be chosen with volume and pressure requirements in mind. For example, if it is to be used for airbrushing, a 5 liter tank and about 30psi of constant air pressure is enough to efficiently do the job. For large scale jobs, it is better to go for a larger one to avoid stopping from time to time to refill the tank.

Another consideration is how easy and convenient it is to port the compressor such as by rolling it or lifting it. If is will not need to be moved from time to time, it can be placed at one spot and moved instead through a long hose connected to it. The power source is another consideration with most compressors running on 110V and larger ones 240V.
