Portable Highchairs For Travel - Collapsible Booster Seat High Chairs

Ranked #1,090 in Parenting & Kids, #33,587 overall

A baby feeding chair is one of those little necessities it is hard to do without. When eating at home this isn't a problem as your free standing or foldable highchair is always readily available but when it comes to feeding baby away from your own house it can often become a problem. Bigger chain restaurants usually have some form of high chair or booster seat you can use, although sanitation is your problem but smaller restaurants are often less accommodating. Eating at family and friends houses can be even worse as unless they have children themselves, they're unlikely to have anything suitable meaning you have to make do somehow.

The solution to all these problems is to buy your own portable highchair booster seat or to opt for a wrap around or tie on material highchair like those offered by Totseat amongst others. The latter which have sometimes been called pocket high chairs or a child chair harness, amongst other things, are innovative products made entirely of easy clean material and are designed to fit securely over the majority of regular chairs turning any one of them into an instant baby feeding high chair. Better still, these pocket size foldable high chairs fold up to around the size of the average diaper making them the most portable feeding solution imaginable. Rather than having yet another bag to carry around, or relying upon whatever the restaurant provides or making do at a friend or family member's house, you can always be prepared by slipping one of these into your purse or diaper bag and taking it everywhere you go. They'll even slip comfortably into a coat pocket or glove compartment so you can always have a feeding station on hand in case you need it.

The alternative to these are the aforementioned portable booster highchairs which fold up and can be carried around like a shoulder bag. The Fisher Price Healthy Care Deluxe Booster Seat is a great choice which, although bulkier than any of the cloth highchair harnesses, offers the additional advantage of adding a few inches in height to raise your child up to the level of the table. I prefer these because the others often leave your child at a perfect height for gnawing on the edge of the table which is less than sanitary in a public restaurant.

Fisher-Price Healthy Care Deluxe Booster Seat, Red/White

This is the portable highchair booster seat for babies we use and can honestly say, we love everything about it. We bought ours because we figured any product with over 1000 ratings and an average of 5 stars out of 5 from other customers couldn't possibly be anything other than superb and we were right. Fisher Price did an excellent job with this product.

We bought this for when we babysit our granddaughter because we didn't want to have to find the room for a full-sized highchair in our house. It works perfectly, fitting easily onto any adult chair with the use of two adjustable straps which tie it on firmly to the back and the underside of the chair so it doesn't move even a fraction of an inch. Baby then buckles in with a strap between her legs and the feeding tray itself snaps on too for even more security. Once they're in here, they're not going to fall out easily.

We love how sturdy the whole chair feels, and how the use of plastic throughout make this easy to simply wipe clean. The tray comes in two parts, one which snaps on and another tray which fits inside of this. We don't use the top tray any more because it just seems unecessary and once your child gets a bit stronger they will have no trouble lifting it up and dumping everything on the floor. The bottom tray has no such problems as this is the part which snaps on, so we just use that and its small enough to remove and give it a quick wash in the sink when it gets too messy or just wipe with a cloth for smaller spills.

We've used this on the road too because ultimately that's what it is designed for and that's where its usefulness will really shine through if you travel alot or like to eat out with baby or visit friends who do not have baby seats themselves. This collapsible baby highchair folds up flat and has a carry strap so you can just sling it over your shoulder leaving your hands free for all those other things you always end up carrying with children in tow. The plastic material is lightweight so carrying it isn't going to be a burden.

By comparison to the sling style material high chairs for babies shown lower down this page then yes, it is arguably a little bulky. I mean, those can be folded up and shoved in the side of a diaper bag or even in a coat pocket, but as foldable highchairs go, this is still a small, lightweight alternative.

The Sling Style Travel High Chair vs Other Types of Portable High Chairs For Babies

Put simply, if you have a baby who is able to sit up unaided to be fed, then you need one of these.

The pocket sized sling style high chair folds up to around the size of an average diaper making it an absolute no brainer purchase for anyone who travels anywhere at all with their baby or toddler.

Traditional travel high chairs are typically bulky hard plastic feeding stations which do have the added benefit of coming complete with a feeding tray so baby can feed themselves...or dump food all over the floor of wherever you are staying of course. They are practical when you are traveling by car or don't mind porting them around with you.

One of the few complaints about the sling or wrap style of baby high chair is that they generally do not allow your child to sit at the height of the majority of dining style tables. Booster seats lift baby up a little to elevate them to a more inclusive level whilst the sling style does not raise them up at all. This might be a problem if your child is used to joining in at meal times and you might still want a baby booster chair for most occasions if this is the case, but for those emergency occasions, or for feeding time outside of regular planned meals, an over seat high chair wrap or tie on style sling seat might still be a life saver.

TrendyKid Totseat, Chocolate Circles

Amazon Price: $34.99 (as of 06/04/2012)Buy Now

The Totseat is designed to fit virtually every adult chair on the market today so you will always have a safe and secure baby feeding chair with you at all times. A portable travel highchair doesn't get any more lighter or more convenient to carry around with you than one of these either. It is made entirely of lightweight washable material with multiple colors available when you click the above link or click on the picture. The chocolate chip one shown here is cute but you'll also be able to choose from lime green stripes, pink, blue and more.

It comes with a little carrying bag so keep it clean and folded up but will just as easily fit inside your purse of diaper bag too. Fold it up neatly, or screw it up into a ball and stuff it where it fits, it doesn't matter because the next time you need it, the Totseat will be ready to go.

Buy it for yourself or congratulate yourself on finding the perfect baby shower gift for prospective mother and father-to-be in you life and they'll thank you for this go anywhere solution.

The only thing which is a general gripe about baby travel highchair seats like this one is that they do nothing to boost the child up to a more comfortable height around things like a restaurant table. Portable booster seats like the Fisher Price one above are better at doing this but are not something you are going to carry around everywhere with you. For many of us, it makes sense to own both, this type for dumping in the diaper bag or purse so it is always available when you unexpectedly need it or know you're going to have too much to carry and the booster style for when you know you'll be eating out at a restaurant or friend's house and know you'll need that little extra boost to make baby feel comfortable around the table.

Portable Booster Seats For Travel and Restaurant Dining

The nice thing about this kind of highchairs for babies is that they allow you to turn any adult dining chair into a baby or toddler highchair simply by snapping or tieing on of these onto it.

Dining chair booster seats are prefered by many parents (and their children!) because they enable the child to sit higher in the seat which leaves them at a more comfortable level to the table at which they are seated.
