Not to Miss

DuckFat
143 Middle Street
Although featured both in Food & Wine and New York Times Magazine, this is still a hidden gem. Splendid eating in a casual environment. Don't be confused by the funky menu, it's impossible to go wrong at DuckFat.

Top of the East
157 High Street
Go to the Eastland Hotel, hop in the elevator and push "R" for Roof. Great views of Greater Portland and Portland Harbor. As dusk approaches, see Portland Head's light sending its roving warning to approaching vessels. And, while you're at it, enjoy great drinks, especially the champagne cocktails.

Eastern Promenade Park
Exquisite views of Casco Bay. Get a little exercise by playing tennis or basketball with stunning views in the background or walk the coastal trail to the Old Port.

The Portland Observatory
138 Congress Street
Although closely resembling a lighthouse, the structure, built in 1807, is the only remaining maritime signal station in the country and an architectural "gem" of Portland's past, when ancient sailing vessels competed for dockage space on the city's busy wharfs.

The Kotzschmar Organ
20 Myrtle Street
The Kotzschmar Organ was a gift to the City of Portland by publishing magnate Cyrus Curtis. Built by the Austin Organ Company of Hartford, Connecticut, it was the second largest organ in the world when it was installed in Portland City Hall Auditorium in 1912. Portland remains one of two US cities with a Municipal Organist.
Catch a wonderful line-up each season and for something special, listen as the Kotzschmar steals the show during silent movie nights on Halloween and Valentine's Day.

Hadlock Field
271 Park Avenue
Nothing beats a wonderful summer evening watching the Portland Sea Dogs (Red Sox AA affiliate) play at Hadlock. Enjoy super easy access to the stadium, great food and local brews, and an outfield framed by pine trees.

What Others are Saying

"Portland boasts a thriving arts scene, working waterfront, and one of the country's most successful revitalized warehouse districts. Old Port's narrow cobbled streets are lined with Victorian brick buildings, shops, brewpubs, and scores of restaurants." - GeezerJock Magazine, Fall2005

"Portland Maine is the essence of New England, with craggy coast, great food and some of the best public schools anywhere in the country." - Fine Living Magazine

"Shopping outlets in Kittery and Freeport combined with the boutiques and speciality stores of Bangor and Portland's Old Port, also home to lively nightlife and traditional pubs, have created a growing interest in Maine as an international shopping destination." - Foreign Direct Investment Magazine
