Why Visit Portobello?
Portobello is a wonderful relaxed little slice of heaven. Despite being less than 20 minutes from the city centre by bus it has a friendly village atmosphere. It has a great beach, lots of quirky specialist shops and some great pubs. The Dalriada pub on Promenade is worth the visit alone. Life doesn't get much better than sitting in it's front garden with a cold drink and looking out to sea.
It's quiet yet central location makes it a great place to base yourself during your stay in Edinburgh whether you intend to explore the east coast or visit the many attractions on offer in the city centre.

Getting To Portobello
Given that I have no idea where you'll be setting out from I'm going to assume that you've managed to get to Scotland and are in Edinburgh city centre.Getting to Portobello from here is easy and quick. You can catch the bus to Portobello from Edinburgh's main shopping street Princes Street. Please don't worry about finding Princes Street -it's a short well sign posted walk from Waverly Street train station and the main stop for the regular airport buses.
The bus stop you need is outside Marks and Spencer, opposite the Scott Monument(see map below). You're looking for the number 26 bus run by Lothian buses. Just hop on, ask for an all day ticket and you're on your way.
Alight from the bus on Portobello High Street and follow the signs for the promenade.

Learn More About Portobello
Portobello is a beach resort located three miles (5 km) to the east of the city centre of Edinburgh, along the coast of the Firth of Forth, in Scotland. It is now a suburb of Edinburgh, with a promenade fronting on to the wide sand beach. For many years it was a popular resort with Glaswegians, particularly when the Glasgow Fair trade holiday signalled the start of a 2 week holiday for the west.
