Protecting Children from Sexual Abuse

1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused by the time they reach age 18. Only about 5% of children ever disclose they are being sexually abused. The average age a perpetrator begins sexually abusing children is age 13. 90-95% of all perpetrators are known to their child victims. Sexual abusers come from all walks of life regardless of gender, socio-economic status, education, race, creed, ethnicity and age.
The facts about child sexual abuse are limitless and overwhelming. Thankfully there is something every single one of us can do to help prevent child sexual abuse...

5 minutes...that is all I'm asking...5 minutes. In 5 minutes you can start a conversation with someone to raise awareness of the problem of child sexual abuse. Quote the statistics mentioned above. Then ask that person to talk to someone they know. 5 minutes is all it takes to move the subject of sexual abuse from "in the shadows, in the back of our mind" to the forefront, being talked about and learned about.
What a great way to help a child...talking for 5 minutes! How easy is that?

It does here! The prevention of child abuse is historically underfunded. Therefore, we've had to learn how to protect children in very creative ways...and definitely on the cheap! $1 donated to our organization can provide the funds needed to print 16 fliers inviting child care providers to attend a free training in a curriculum that will help them protect the children in their care. $5 can go to provide 64 children with bookmarks that remind them that sexual abuse is never a child's fault, that it is okay to tell if someone is making them feel funny and that they can say no to touch to their body. Think about what those 3 statements can mean to a child being sexually abused.
