Will There Be Rioting After the 2008 Presidential Election?

Very little has been mentioned about possible rioting after the upcoming 2008 Presidential Election. Perhaps the press has more faith in our citizens, or just does not wish to put the idea into people's heads, but I think the possibility needs to at least be considered, and I certainly hope the police departments are preparing themselves for potential incidents.

Chris from the 505, at 7pm on November 5, 2008 predicts:

I predict for the most part all will be calm and peaceful for the most part up untill president elect makes his way up the white house steps for the offial first time! Soon after stepping foot in the white house and the people have had a few months to think about the time to come riots will begin to break out, weather racial or political riots especially f things like the right to bare arms is revoced many people in states were guns are mearly everyday objects people will be infurriated that they won't be able to go out and purchase their sons first rifle for them to go hunting with because of the ban of firearms... but who really knows predictions are like assholes all of have 'em some of ours just stink worse than others...

piety, at 4pm on November 5, 2008 predicts:

"For goodness sakes, it's the 21st century and you people speak like you are from the dark ages."--these are the new dark ages; the dark ages of conditioning and political correctness; there are extreme people in every group--didn't you see the black panthers on the news with their night sticks. Maybe you didn't...but if they were klan memebers, I'm sure you would have.

B.Nouveau, at 3pm on November 5, 2008 predicts:

last night during some post election "celebrating" some Obama fan's here in Portland decided to go around lighting trash on fire. They lit the garbage in front of the store that I work at on fire cause the whole store front to go up in flames. Now it looks like 5 people our out of a job. Not the "change" we where looking foward to.

Chance A , at 2pm on November 5, 2008 predicts:

all black riots at wright state university in ohio burning dumpsters and trying to flip cars last night swat was called in and everything.... celebrating is one thing but when it comes to destruction of property its called a riot

Chance, at 1am on November 5, 2008 predicts:

There is no riots where I am, just people celebrating like if their sports team won the championship, looks like America's people are better than people say. You can't label a race for a couple of people. There are bad people in every race, the people of that race should not be judged for it.

Jessy Roberts, at 1am on November 5, 2008 predicts:

There is rioting going on as I write this on a college campus shooting and yelling in celebration of obama. Its ridiculous, and scary and dangerous.....

HOOSIER, at 9pm on November 4, 2008 predicts:

There will be celebrating no matter which candidate wins. Isn't that what happens after the Mega Sport Events? There is a difference between 'riot' and 'celebration'. For those of you who (gasp!) are going to lock your doors tonight? Really? For the first time? Wow, where do YOU live?

timetopray, at 9pm on November 4, 2008 predicts:

I predict if Obama gets elected our biggest problem is not whether there are riots tonight, it's the outcome of the next four years.

Scared White Person, at 8pm on November 4, 2008 predicts:

I am terrified watching the election this evening. I cannot imagine living through a minimum of four years with Obama as President. To see the number of black dancing and taunting across the country is disheartening. Either way, whoever wins, the country will change again. There will be incredible racism towards white and hispanic people from the blacks. It has started building since his nomination. I hope and pray that if he does, the black population shows the rest of us that they do have the ability to act civilized and not begin a riot.

tingsao, at 7pm on November 4, 2008 predicts:

Oh, and what is "people of ethnicity?" Just say "Black people." They're black and they know it. They aren't pissed off about it. They know they are black people. if you call them something derrogatory, then it is diiferent, but, they know they are black people. michelle obama calls them "black people" in her Princeton dissertation.

It is what it is. Don't be judgemental, but don't be "PC" just to not be "hateful." Truth is there....

tingsao, at 7pm on November 4, 2008 predicts:

To whomever said "I'll lock my front door tonight," could you give me your address, so I can rob you tomorrow night? Lock your fucking doors, people. I don't know where you live, but in my safe white suburbian neighborhood, I lock my doors everynight. Its easy, simple and smart. Stop being stupid.....

concerned in Ohio, at 6pm on November 4, 2008 predicts:

Regardless of the outcome, I fear there will be riots. There has already been racial tension in this area with people of ethnicity yelling at people walking and in cars that they "better vote for Obama". Sad but true.

Gringo_Malo, at 5pm on November 4, 2008 predicts:

Minor celebratory riots (a few cars burned, a few stores looted) if the Obama wins. Major riots (like LA in 1992) in all major cities if Obama loses.

dnelms1, at 4pm on November 4, 2008 predicts:

im not really sure but ill lock my front door tonight!

James, at 3pm on November 4, 2008 predicts:

Rowdy riotous behavior regardless of the outcome. Thugs and predators use any opportunity to gain an upperhand, cause disruption and head for the electronics and sporting goods stores.

Anna, at 3pm on November 4, 2008 predicts:

I agree also with ARTIE, below. Chicago will likely be ground zero. If you ever travelled Amtrak through Chicago these past months you will have experienced that ummm, "tension". From Nine Eleven to Seven Eleven - brought to you by the corrupt Chicago Political Machine - isn't that a funny term to describe the ruling (elite) multi-national financial mafiosi? BTW NAU means North American Union - it's the elite's dream, and they are using a "cipher agent" (check ABC's background check on him) named Obama is nothing to sacrifice to bring their dream to fruition.

Anna, at 3pm on November 4, 2008 predicts:

FACT: There are secret service agents quitting their careers bcause of the violence that will strike from low to high. Our National Nightmare has been pre-planned since 1944. Today only the shape and color will change. By 2012, "Americans" will be so sick they will be BEGGING for a NAU. Ha ha. Kissinger wins again.

Theresa, at 3pm on November 4, 2008 predicts:

There are plenty of black racists to go around too. There will be riots when McCain wins and it will be said that the "white man" fixed the election, not that McCain is the better man for the job. By the way, obama is also white, not just black - duh.

Brooks, at 2pm on November 4, 2008 predicts:

i think there will be a riot after whoever wins and its goin to deal with racism!

Artie, at 12pm on November 4, 2008 predicts:

Too many folks in a confined area. est. one million...scheesch.Either happy or mad ,going to be a mess to say the least.Good luck Chicago.

Annie Thepirate, at 12pm on November 4, 2008 predicts:

Riots no matter what. I have a feeling they would be worse if McCain won, but there's plenty of racists in this country to go crazy if Obama wins

cheyla, at 12pm on November 4, 2008 predicts:

rioting either way. especially in grant park

Jon, at 12pm on November 4, 2008 predicts:

Either way, there will be some rioting, mostly by those that are racially charged, both ways. If McCain wins, I wouldn't be surprised if the blacks rioted, but the same can be said about whites if obama is elected

amanda, at 11am on November 4, 2008 predicts:

I was in L.A during the Rodney Kings riots...many many people just took to violence and looting as an opportunity to act out. I hope there is no rioting but the TYPE of people that do that....will do so out of anger or celebration. Take your stickers and signs down...so you are not a target. Its not worth getting hurt. I feel this presidential race has unfortunately divided people more racially, not brought them more together.

amy, at 11am on November 4, 2008 predicts:

People who riot....will riot anyway. They just use the election as an excuse...You dont see many riots in mostly republican areas....hummmm

tts, at 9am on November 4, 2008 predicts:

I remember the burning cities of the 60's.For the most part, one side didn't fight back. This time I'm afraid they will.

BOC, at 9am on November 4, 2008 predicts:

I predict Obama supporters will riot if he loses. I predict Obama supporters will riot if he wins. The only difference may be that there will be slightly less rioting if he wins.

Ken, at 9am on November 4, 2008 predicts:

What do you mean, "They"?

stu, at 9am on November 4, 2008 predicts:

they will riot for joy if he wins they will riot out of anger if he looses

muziki, at 6am on November 4, 2008 predicts:

that there will only be rioting if obama is killed in office after he wins.

Juanita, at 2am on November 4, 2008 predicts:

This has got to be the most racist bunch of people here -- For goodness sakes, it's the 21st century and you people speak like you are from the dark ages.

Swingvoter, at 11pm on November 3, 2008 predicts:

I predict if McCain wins, that if there are riots, it will only be done by those who are uncivil, and are no better than animals.

Conserve a Liberal, at 6pm on November 3, 2008 predicts:

I think conservatives are too conservative to riot, but they may raise our interest rates. I do think liberals will riot because they feel they are intitled to do so under the freedom to riot act (I know it's not a real law but liberals don't know that) :)

Tommy, at 2pm on November 3, 2008 predicts:

I remember watching the riots after the Rodney King verdict. I personally think that those riots created caution in the minds of jurors of the O.J. Simpson trial.
I don't want to come across as racist here. Although white, I have vacationed at Myrtle Beach during Black Biker Week. There were tens of thousands of blacks racing up and down the streets and everyone I met was polite and courteous.
I am speaking of a way of thinking. In my 40 years of existence, including 4 years in the military, I have found that generally speaking conservative people want most to be left alone to live their lives and pursue their dreams with as little interference from the federal government as possible. In the other hand, liberal minded people want the federal government to penalize the achievers, and take portions of their success to give to the less successful, all in the name of 'fairness'.
I first noticed this trend in the 8th grade. I set my goal of a perfect report card. I wanted all 100's. My science teacher graded on the curve. That means that however many points short of 100 the highest score in the class was, that's how many points everyone's grade was raised. I received threats because others knew that I intended to make a 100 on the final exam. Their logic, expressed in their promise of retribution if I scored 100 on my own, was that I would probably score the highest with a 90 score, but that the grade curve would lift it to 100 anyway, along with their grade increase as well.
I refused to be intimidated, and received my 100. The threats were not acted on, thankfully.
My point being, those who are habitual underachievers are serious about hindering over achievers for their own benefit. When their 'team' doesn't win the argument, their anger is often expressed violently.
Most of the voters supporting Barack Obama are openly stating that they expect him to penalize the achievers in this country, and redistribute the fruits of their labors to those who have not achieved as much. They state loudly that they believe that they deserve this, speculating that they were somehow cheated out of their 'fair share' of the goodies available in this great country.
I fear that if they lose, they will claim to have once again been cheated, and the riots will be on.

Keep your powder dry, and your tempers in check. In this country, if you don't like your lot in life, you have an unbelievable number of avenues by which you can audit yourself, find out what you like and want to do and to be, and then WORK to make it so. But beware: if the coming socialism under Barack Obama takes hold in this country, your avenues of success will diminish and become harder to find; and should you find one and become successful, then YOU will become one of those being targeted for the stripping of your successes, that will then be given to those who were too lazy or too fooled to improve their status by their own hard work and merit.

mermaid47, at 2pm on November 3, 2008 predicts:

There will be riots no matter who wins this election. It is a race war. People can pretend, but the truth is that it is a racial election. I pray for the safety of my family and friends. There will be violence.

Mk, at 1pm on November 3, 2008 predicts:

History seems to be forgotten so quickly. It wasn't but forty years ago when there were the race riots across the country. Cities were burned, small and large. It almost seems unbelievable the amount of violence that happened, but the truth is, it did happen.

Obviously, Mark down there is probably ignorant to those dark days. Truth is, fewer riots happened in the South, were most centered in areas such as Baltimore, Detroit, Chicago, etc.

I hope such events don't repeat themselves. But if they do, I have a decent little arsenal that I know how to use and a small stockpile of ammo. I feel sorry if any poor rioting saps wander in my neighborhood.

Mark-California, at 12pm on November 3, 2008 predicts:

Riots! If either side wins, there will be riots in southern states.

banapple, at 12pm on November 3, 2008 predicts:

Either way it goes, I believe rioting could happen no matter who wins. There is just so much emotion surrounding this election. Race should not be a factor...it's unfortunate that it really is. Tomorrow (Nov 4) will be a huge day in America...it will impact the rest of the world as well.

Caron, at 10am on November 3, 2008 predicts:

It seems inevitable. Obama scheduled "Victory Party" in Chicago is in a park that holds 75,000, yet over 1 million are expected to attend. It makes for a very explosive situation. Yes, I am worried that innocent people will be hurt, and that the civil unrest will spread to other areas.

RUSTY, at 4am on November 3, 2008 predicts:

IT WILL BE JUST LIKE DETROIT IN 1967

Realistic, at 9pm on November 2, 2008 predicts:

There are two Americas and right now they are against each other in this election, if there are riots when sports teams win there will be riots if either candidate wins.

whiteyforobama, at 7pm on November 2, 2008 predicts:

i predict my ar-15 will prevent any incidents in my neighborhood

JoeFubietze, at 7pm on November 2, 2008 predicts:

There will be riots for sure! Ever see what happens when a city's major league team final wins the national title after years of losing? Ever see what happens when these same people do not get what they want? When it comes to the whole race thing I am totally colorblind. But I have worked with and been around enough people of color to realize that many of them will definitely feel a sense of entitlement and smugness to the situation if Obama wins. And if you are white and voted for Obama try to explain that to them. And feel their lack of concern and lack of that felling of comradeship. Their only response will be to condescendingly tell you to step to the back of the bus! Get ready any non-black (and yes this includes muslims) when Obama wins you will be paying on a daily basis for what has happened to someone else's great-great-etc-grandpappy years ago! Will not matter that that person of color has never felt the lash of the whip. And it surely will not matter that you have never held a whip. Find your friends and hold them close.....we are in for one heck of a ride!

Mitch, at 11am on November 2, 2008 predicts:

Chicago's Grant Park will turn to mayhem.

Howfancy07, at 1am on November 2, 2008 predicts:

There will only be rioting if Obama do not become President. I'm prepared for the worse. I'll be voting on Tuesday, going home, turning on the television and waiting to see what happens.
Peace

Believe IT, at 9pm on November 1, 2008 predicts:

Acorn should have resolved this potential problem. BUT either way there s a group that will riot win or lose.

tom, at 6pm on November 1, 2008 predicts:

riots in ny,la,ch,det if b.h.o wins or loses,i live in baltimore and i will not go to work the next day.sad isnt it.there will be race fights in all major cities.were not ready for race elections, maybe in 25 years.fact all americans are racist.sad but true, tom

danny, at 5pm on November 1, 2008 predicts:

marshall law gun pickups

The_Homeopath, at 10am on November 1, 2008 predicts:

I'm less afraid of wide-scale civil unrest than I am a lone wack-job asassin. On either side.

PastorKay, at 2pm on October 31, 2008 predicts:

I actually fear they may be riots on election day, when the lines are long at the end of the night. Pray for peace.

Christene, at 1pm on October 30, 2008 predicts:

I predict there be some rioting no matter who wins. :(
I hope I'm wrong.
