The potbellied pig is a breed of domesticated pig originating in Vietnam with fourteen sub-species. Significantly smaller in comparison to standard Yankee or Western european farm pigs, most adult potbellied pigs are about the scale of a medium- or large-breed dog, though their bodies are denser at a weight of 27 to 136 kg ( sixty to three hundred lb ).
Potbellied pigs can be simply discerned from other pig breeds by their size, upright ears and straight tail. Pigs with fat rolls over their eyes or a belly that touches the ground are easy visible indicators the pig is chunky. Though they've a pot belly and a swayed back, these aren't suggestive of weight. Pigs in correct weight still have the sway and belly, but the hip bones can easily be felt with minimum pressure and the eyes should be simply obvious.
The potbellied pig is a very sturdy animal with short legs, a slightly swayed back, a pendulous belly, a short tail ending with a flowing switch, short, erect ears, and a snout that varies from short and stubby to long and elegant. A potbellied pig continues to grow for at least two to three years.
