Training Potties and Potty Training Tips

Toddlers are independent. They have their mind made up about what they want and how they want it done. They will make sure you know it too! At this stage, between the ages of 2 and 4, they are exercising their autonomy skills. Toddlers have the desire to be in charge of their own bodies, and they should be. Finding the delicate balance between allowing them to have this autonomy and expecting them to use the potty can be quite difficult for parents.

This Boon Potty Bench is on Amazon for $29.99.

Your child is ready for the potty when they...

- Hide to "go" in their diaper/pull-up
- Have regular bowel movements and stay dry for hours
- Can follow simple instructions
- Show interest in the toilet

Make The Potty Accessible

A step ladder will help them reach the potty

type=textThe toilet can look like a scary thing to a toddler-sized person. It's cold and white, and makes funny noises. If you wanted to get them accustomed to the toilet, try a step ladder and something that fits their little bodies better. This will make it much more accessible to them, and it makes it look more kid-friendly.
I like this Kiddyloo potty because it all comes in one. Another great thing about it is that a toddler can easily put the potty seat on and off.

The Kiddyloo Toilet Seat Reducer can be purchased at $31.12 on Amazon.

“majority of children are able to master daytime toileting by the age of three and a half or so”

Flushable Wipes

I love the Kandoo Wipes!

Toilet paper can be so hard for children to use. Children end up using much more toilet paper than is necessary, the toilet paper can make their bottom hurt because they are used to the soft, wet wipes, and toilet paper doesn't clean as well as these. I definitely recommend this!

Teach about Hygeine

Foam soap is fun for kids, and a lot less messy for mom!

Teach them about hygeine and that they need to wash their hands after using the potty.

Important!

Rewards are essential!

Toddlers live on rewards. They will do just about anything if they can see a reason for it. That reason is.....A REWARD

Potties with Rewards

Remember, Rewards are Essential!

type=text

Fisher-Price Cheer for Me! Potty is on Amazon for $26.99

Rewards are great! This is what gets your toddler motivated to use the potty. You are so anxious to finally get them out of diapers and a little more independent, but they have their own mind made up. If you make it seem like the potty is their idea and they can see the benefits (reward) than there will be a lot less headache, for you and your child.

Friendly Animals

Make the potty more inviting

type=textChildren like animals. Make the potty more inviting by having a friendly animal. This is a great potty for training because it has more than one feature. A great thing is that it has music for when they use the potty, that's a great reward! Another feature is that this duck turns into a stepstool, so after potty training is done, you can still use this. Don't worry, there is a removable bucket where they "went." Legs are removable for easy storage.

The Fisher-Price Ducky Fun 3-in-1 Potty can be purchased on Amazon for $24.99

Character Potty

Motivate your toddler with their favorite character

If your toddler has a favorite character, you should get something that has that revolves around it. Potty training is much more fun if they have a buddy to do it with!
