Potty Training Tips for Boys

The number one question when people want potty training tips for boys seems to be the pee issue. Do we teach our boys to pee standing up or sitting down. While there is no right or wrong answer to this questions, my suggestion is to teach them standing up. My reasoning is that there is no transition period from sitting down to standing up.

I hear so many times over that boys are harder to potty train than girls. Having done through both once in my lifetime, I can tell you that my daughter was potty trained in a week, while my son took a little longer...like 6 months longer. At which time I started seeking help and advice for potty training my son, that is when I ran accross www.PottyTrainingToddlers.YourTimeToday.com. It is a full blown potty training system and helps you potty train your child in less than 3 days. So keep reading for more tips on potty training toddlers.

Sitting Down or Standing Up

Potty training tips for boysI want to go a little deeper in my explanation for my reasoning on the whole sitting down or standing up while peeing issue. I researched it a lot actually, and found that there really is no right or wrong answer, it's based on personal preference. I chose to potty train my son to stand up while peeing, it seemed to come more natural for him, since he saw that that was how dad does it.

Some people will tell you that sitting down for both potty activities will be easier on the child, and keep him less confused, since he will be sitting regardless what he is doing. Another reason for training them to sit for both it to keep the clean up from missed aiming to a minimum.

So it is really up to you whether or not you teach him to pee standing up or sitting down.

Get the Proper Equipment

There seems to be a fairly large debate on the proper equipment to properly potty train a boy. In recent time I have noticed that a lot of stores have started selling small urinals to better assist us parents in potty training our boys to pee standing up. This is an optional piece of equipment and I can tell you that I personally did not buy one for my son and he still was able to learn to pee standing up, however, when we are in public he doesn't want to use the urinal, he would rather use the toilet.

One piece of equipment I don't think can be over looked is the potty chair or a potty seat and stool. When we went shopping we were able to find a potty chair that later converted into a stool, that helped our son reach the full size toilet when he out grew the potty chair. Trying to potty train your son to sit on a full size toilet with out the use of a potty seat is virtually impossible, he will be too concentrated on holding himself up so he doesn't fall in the toilet, than he will be on using the potty. So don't for-go this piece of equipment it is definitely worth the investment.

Where Will He Train?

I find a lot of parents not training their children in the bathroom, usually out of convenience to the location of the bathroom, and how fast they can get their child to the bathroom. I for one highly suggest that you do all of your training in the bathroom, that way any accidents or missed aiming attempts will be contained to the bathroom and not any other room of your home.

You will also need to be prepared to do some extra cleaning in the bathroom. There will be several accidents and missed aims during the entire potty training process for your son. There will most likely be accidents in other rooms of your home as well, so be prepared, and learn some nerve calming techniques, so you don't get upset and scare your son from potty training.
