Potty Training Boys Bowel Movements Doesn't Have to Be a Chore...

One of the biggest misconceptions about potty training boys bowel movements (or BMs) is that it's a huge hassle, a chore, etc...

Well, it's time to start thinking differently, because, quite frankly it's not any of those things!

Or, at least, it doesn't have to be.

You just need to learn what you should and shouldn't be doing, and I can promise your task will become much easier. Once you accept that it's a process, not something that happens on a whim, then you'll be much more prepared for the oncoming tasks.

Just look at it as time to grow closer to your son!

When it comes down to it, you both need to go through this together. So don't be upset with him when he has an accident, accept it and tell him you know he'll do better!

However, there are a few things you need to know before you start...

Potty Training Boys Bowel Movements: A Checklist to Get Started

Here Are Several Basic Things To Look For Before You Start

Alright, before we get started...

I'd like to begin by going through a check list of things that you should do before you even begin potty training boys bowel movements.

1. Is your son eating enough fiber? It's essential that your boy eats lots of fruits and vegetables to get the necessary fiber needed to have smooth, painless bowel movements. Apples and seedless grapes are great. Prune juice is great. Broccoli is great.

2. Is your son hydrated? Make sure that your son pees clear, because otherwise you risk causing stomach pains due to an inappropriate water to fiber ratio. This will drastically inhibit potty training boys bowel movements, and should be very carefully monitored.

3. Is your son under emotional stress? DO NOT begin potty training unless there is zero emotional stress in your son's life. Much better to wait a few weeks, or even months, for emotional issues to be resolved, than to risk psychological issues for the rest of his life. Potty training, especially bowel movements, is a very delicate time in any child's life.

Potty Training Boys Bowel Movements: What You Should and Shouldn't Do

Here Are Several Basic Techniques to Use When Potty Training Your Son

Here's a basic guide to what you should and shouldn't do when potty training boys bowel movements:

YOU SHOULDN'T - Punish your son when he has an accident.

YOU SHOULD - Set up a reward system. The time-tested method of using a wall chart and gold stars, or stickers of your son's favorite cartoon character, works wonders. When your son reaches ten (the number is up to you) gold stars, give him a reward. Good rewards might be a new toy, some ice cream, something like that. Or maybe you could try telling them they get a party when they fill up the chart.

YOU SHOULDN'T - Leave your son alone in the bathroom.

YOU SHOULD - Go with your son to do his business. This is a proven technique for potty training boys bowel movements. By going with your son to the bathroom, you make him feel like he's growing up to be a big boy (and indeed he is!). This way he's more comfortable, and he knows that he's doing well.

YOU SHOULDN'T - Leave it to your son to tell you when he has to go.

YOU SHOULD - Ask him if he has to go number two every time he goes pee, and every time you go pee. This will train your son to feel for that need, building up the involuntary trigger that adults have that tells them when they need to poop. This will also not let your son forget about going to the bathroom.
