Potty Training Boys to Poop...I Know it Can Make You Want To Pull Your Hair Out But...

Ah...Potty training boys to poop...It can seem so challenging.

Here's the thing though, it doesn't have to be. In fact, I'm going to tell you a couple secrets to get you right on your way to having your boy potty trained to poop in no time.

Ok? One thing though before we get going...

It's important to remember: NEVER reprimand your son for having an accident, no matter how frustrating it can be some time.

If you get angry at your son and show disappointment, well best-case scenario you've hurt his feelings and probably delayed him being fully potty trained...Worst-case scenario you've planted the seed of deep psychological problems that he will cope with for the rest of his life. Most psychologists agree that potty training is a very delicate time for a young boy (or girl).

It's SUPER important that you take care to encourage your son!

Ok, now that we've got that out of the way, let's get to the meat and potatoes.

Potty Training Boys Poop: The Basic Method

If You've Already Tried These Techniques, Skip Down to Advanced Method.

Alright, now there are a couple basic techniques when it comes to potty training boys poop that you can try.

Here they are:

1. Proper Diet. If your son is constipated then you will not have ANY success getting them to poop, and it will be much more difficult to making any headway at all. Make sure you provide them with lots of fiber. Fruits and vegetables are key in this stage. Avoid cheese's and dairy in general should be limited. Apple juice, prune juice, etc...are all great things for your son to have in his diet.

2. Positive Reinforcement. When your son goes to the bathroom (I'm assuming he's got peeing down pretty well, otherwise scroll down and look at a different lens), make sure you both reward him, tell him how pleased you are, and ask if he has to poop. By asking if he has to go #2 you're reinforcing that the bathroom is the place to do that.

Potty Training Boys Poop: The Advanced Method

Already Tried the Basic Method? Here's What to Do Next

Have Fun in the Bathroom!Alright, so you've given the basic methods of potty training boys poop a chance, but have had little success, now it's time to try something a little more complicated. This method relies on teaching muscle memory and setting an example.

For this method to work it's critical that your son has lots of natural laxatives in his diet. This is covered in the basic method: lots of fiber, prune juice, apple juice, etc etc.

Step 1 - Take a day or two off of work, or set aside a weekend to be with your son. You're going to make this fun for them, and you need to devote time to take care of this.

Step 2 - Set a schedule. You're going to make up a schedule of all the times you're going to take your son to the bathroom. Now, throughout the day you should take your boy to the bathroom at least 10 times. Even if he doesn't have to go, take him to the bathroom, sit down on the toilet with him, and ask him if he has to go. This builds enhanced muscle memory.

Step 3 - Any time YOU have to go to the bathroom, take him with you. Chat with him, tell him to bring a toy or something, just anything to get him to have some fun in the bathroom. You need to get it into his head that the bathroom is a positive place, associated with happiness. I know this step may seem a little awkward, but trust me...it works!
