Hello,  I am Dr. Kip Rode of Rode Chiropractic and I welcome you to my site.   I am located on Poway Road in the Lively Center. My address is 13248 Poway Rd. Ste B Poway, CA 92064.  I routinely help people with many physical ailments and problems, they may have such as headaches, low back pain, sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome, loss of energy, mid back pain.   Often people will automatically go to their MD looking for a solution especially if they have headaches, but a lot of headaches originate from problems in the neck.  You see drugs merely cover up the problem they don't get to the cause of it.  Chiropractic actually gets to the cause of the problem which is when the bone is out of alignment in the spine. In this lens I will be proving further information about chiropractic care and the problems that it helps plus other helpful information.

I Thought It Would Go Away

Often Times it Doesn't

"I thought it would go away" I often hear this from patients when I talk to them for the first time. Sometimes the pain has been going on for many years and they either get feed up with it or it is progressively getting worse. What people don't realize is that if there spine is out of alignment and it is causing the problems, then the problems will continue until their spine is realigned. The body is self healing but the spine is not self correcting if it get to far out of alignment. If it stays out of alignment for to long then degeneration will begin in the spine. Degeneration is a permanent process it cannot be restored to its original state. So if your pain is continuing don't wait to long to get it check out.

Poway Chiropractor Dr Rode Explains Why it is important to see a chiropractor after a car accident

Even if you don't feel pain things may not be alright

If you are in a car accident it is important to see a chiropractor after the accident. What happens is that the impact my cause a misalignment in the spine if the impact is sever enough. Even though you may not feel any pain right away the pain can slowly develop months after the initial impact. Another reason why it is important is be checked is because you may have sustained a whiplash injury. The occurs when the car hits you from behind and your head quickly goes forward and then backwards. Sometimes this can cause a reversal of the curve in your neck and this can only be determined by taking an x-ray of your neck. Traction may be required to restore the curve of your neck due to the tearing or stretching of ligaments and tissues. If it is not restored then degeneration will begin with bone spurring and decrease in disk height as a result.
I also recommend that patients carry med pay on their car insurance incase their health insurance doesn't have chiropractic care and even if it does it may take more than the number of visits that their health insurance covers.

Poway Chiropractor Dr Rode Talks About Whiplash Injury

Why after whiplash injury you need to see a chiropractor

A whiplash injury typically happens after a car accident. You will be sitting at a stop light or stop sign an someone hits your car from behind. What happens next is very bad for your neck. Your head will immediately move forward then backward. This sudden acceleration and deceleration will cause the ligament in your neck to stretch and sometimes tear. When this happens the natural "lordotic" or forward curve becomes kyphotic or backward. The only way to determine that this has happened is to take a lateral x-ray film of the neck. If the curve has reversed then the weight bering load is transferred from the facets of the spine to the muscles of the neck. This will accelerate the degeneration of the cervical spine. It can also lead to headaches and neck pain as well. That is why anyone who has been in an auto accident really should have their neck check by a chiropractor who will take x-ray pictures of their neck. Just because the pain may go away on its own is no indication of whether you have suffered from a whiplash injury or not. So keep that in mind when if you get rear ended by another car.

Poway Chiropractor Dr Rode Talks About a Ban Advised on 2 Top Pills For Pain Relief

Try Chiropractic instead

An advisory committee for the Federal Drug Administration recommended a ban on Percocet and Vicodin because of their effects on the liver.

The drugs contain acetaminophen which is found in Tylenol and Excedrin.

Each year 400 people die and 42,000 are hospitalized due to overdoses.

People are using these drugs to limit or decrease the pain they are experiencing.

Low back pain, neck pain, headaches are common reasons for taking it.

These are also the aches and pains that chiropractors can effectively treat.

Now doesn't it make sense to see a chiropractor to see if he can help rather than risk liver damage by taking acetaminophen?

If I hurt myself and am no longer in pain should I still get checked by a chiropractor?

Sometimes people have a serious spill. The may fall off a bike or hurt themselves surfing or water skiing. After time the pain goes away but they should still get check by a chiropractor. The reason why is because the jarring injury may have caused a misalignment in their spine. Over time if not corrected this may start the degeneration process which can decrease the vertebral disc and cause bone spurring. So if you have a serious fall or spill even if you aren't in pain you should see a chiropractor just to make sure something hidden is not going on.

Poway Chiropractor Dr Rode Talks About "What is a Subluxation"

Why subluxations are important and how they affect you.

A subluxation is a term you will only hear around chiropractors. It is a verterbral bone that is out of place and is pinching or putting pressure on a spinal nerve. This can lead to problems such a soreness, tightness, aches in the muscles. It can cause the sensation of burning or tingling, numbness as well. These are all reasons that people go to see a chiropractor. Now the area that is involved can be the neck, mid back or low back area. What people don't realize is that when a subluxation occurs it typically will not correct itself. The body is self healing, but it is not self correcting. That is where chiropractors come in. What we do is we adjust the subluxation and restore mobility to the vertebral segment. This helps to allow the nerve flow to come out the way it should. Also what people don't realize is that the nerves go to the internal organs as well. Now the organs don't have pain receptors they just don't function like they should at which point people will typically go to their MD and get a prescription drug for what is bothering them. So a subluxation can cause more problems than people realize. If you would like more information please visit me at Rode Chiropractic

Poway Chiropractor Dr Rode Talks About How to Sleep Properly

Some ways are good and some aren't

How you sleep is very important for the health of your spine. There are some ways that are helpful and some ways that are harmful to your spine. If you sleep on your stomach your neck will be turned one way or the other way and you wake up with a stiff sore neck. Sleeping on your back is the best way because the whole spine is supported. If you have low back pain you can put cushions underneath your legs and this will help your low back. If you have neck pain you can put a rolled up towel underneath your neck and that will help restore the curve in your neck especially if you have lost the curve from a whiplash injury. If you sleep on your side it is important to put a pillow between your legs, this will prevent your spine from getting torqued through the night. Just keep these in mind and your spine will be much better for it.

Poway Chiropractor Dr Rode Explains Why I Recommend Patients Get Med Pay on their Auto Insurance

Many People Don't Have It!!!

Today is a rainy day and it will rain for the next couple of days. i will probably get a patient from a car accident due to the rain. I always recommend that people get med pay for their car insurance because if the car accident is severe (which they can be) then the patients health insurance may not cover all of the visits necessary to get them better. This is especially important if you don't have health insurance or it doesn't cover chiropractic care. I know one person who was in a care accident and she broke her leg. The health insurance paid for the hospital bills but did not pay for the cost of the ambulance which ended up costing 1,000.00. If she had med pay on her car insurance it would have paid for the ambulance cost. So check with you car insurance company and see if you have med pay on your policy. If you don't then look into getting it. Because you never know when you will need it and it really doesn't add much to your premium.

Poway Chiropractor Dr Rode Explains Why Sometimes Patients Need Heel Lifts

One of the reasons why patients may suffer from low back pain is because the have what is called an anatomical short leg. There are two types of short legs anatomical and functional. A functional short leg is when one of the muscle is contracted and causes the feet to be different on a leg length check. An anatomical short leg is something that shows up when an X-ray film is taken. Some times if the difference is large enough a heel lift for the shoe may be warranted. When you put in heal lifts and there is a large difference say 15 mm it is important to start off slowly. Start with a 3 mm lift then go to a 6 mm lift then 9 mm and then a 12 mm lift. If start of with the 12 mm lift you can actually be causing more problems in the low back because the body in no use to such a sudden change. That is why it is always important to gradually increase the lift height. For more information about your chiropractic needs call Dr Rode at Rode Chiropractic in Poway CA 858-391-1372

Poway Chiropractor Dr Rode Talks About Carrying Your Belongings the Chiropractic Way

It is hard to imagine that some so seemingly simple tasks as carrying your makeup and driver's license can have adverse effects on your back and neck. Chiropractors have warned for years that men and women need to not only rethink the way they dress but just as importantly the way that they carry around their belongings. Perhaps not surprisingly, many a chiropractor seeks to counsel parents to help their children carry heavy school backpacks appropriately and in such a manner that the little ones will not suffer from short term back pain and even neck pain but in the long term will not find themselves with severely deformed spines which will not adjust themselves naturally any longer. Yet it is not only children who need to be made aware of the proper methods of carrying their books and other belongings, but adults need to learn - and in some cases re-learn - these tasks again themselves.

Men and women are guilty of carrying their belongings in such a manner as to negatively impact their bodies, yet it is women who are well known for carrying purses and backpacks that are so heavy as to rival any high school kid's carrying case. Chiropractors strongly urge women and man to carry bags that amount to less than 10 percent of their individual body weight. The less weight the better, and to this end chiropractors suggest that people check their bags, handbags, and assorted other carrying devices and leave at home anything and everything that they do not deem absolutely essential for a daily outing. In addition to the foregoing, carrying your purse or back over one shoulder further harms your back!

Ideally, you should carry your belongings in a backpack on your back. The pack should have wide straps - preferably padded - and not hang more than four inches below your waist. While this flies in the face of any and every fashion edict, it does go a long way to alleviate shoulder pain, reduce back pain, and prevent many an injured back. As a matter of fact, chiropractors point out that from a musculoskeletal perspective, the curvature of the spine changes when a person carries a pack or purse slung over a shoulder. The shoulder goes up and with this motion and the spine also moves up as well as forward, thus affecting the natural gait of the individual.

As you can see, there is so much more to carrying your daily necessities than meets the eye. If you are currently experiencing back pain or neck or shoulder pain, please be certain to make an appointment with your chiropractor and have her or him take a look at your back and perhaps also adjust any vertebrae that may have gone out of alignment. At the same time, do show your chiropractor the purse or pack you are carrying on a daily basis and ask the professional to evaluate it for the sake of not only functionality but also healthfulness for your back. The odds are good that your chiropractor will be able to give you some tips and advise about how to carry around your possessions in a safe and healthy manner.
