How to Powder Coat Rims
Not only are powder coated rims more attractive, but they will be more resistant to scratches than a regular paint job.
Powder coating comprises of ground pigments and resin.
It can be done at home, but you should have a spare oven for powder coating jobs.
Steps to Powder Coating
The process involves taking the parts and Sand Blasting, Glass Beading or Plastic Blasting them to remove old coatings and contaminants first.
Then the part is either polished, Chromate coated or Phosphate coated to prevent surface rust and help adhesion.
Then, if the part has any critical areas that need to be masked and / or plugged to prevent excess powder from getting into threaded holes or onto gasket surfaces, this is done.
The part is then prepped again, coated with the proper color powder and cured.
If a top coat is then required, as in the case with Translucent colors being applied over a non-chrome or un-polished surface, the proper color top coat is applied and the part is cured again.

* * * * * Wear eye protection and work in a well-ventilated area.
