Blogging Is a Way of Life

Like many things in this world, it is very easy for blogging to essentially become a way of life. Just as other things become a way of life, it makes sense that one should consider earning money from their blogging efforts.

There are those who are totally against this, feeling that it somehow pollutes the blogosphere - and in some cases, they are right. There are many 'spam' type blogs out there, that exist for the sole purpose of trying to make a buck, without any other real purpose of existence.

But, this doesn't mean that legitimate bloggers - who have something of real interest and importance to say - should not cash in with their blogs. So, if you are interested in not only running a successful blog, but also in earning an income from that blog, you are in the right place.

It's Not About the Money...

...for the most part

When you start a blog for the sole purpose of making money, the chances are very good that you will fail. You see, while it is okay to blog, and to earn money from your blogging efforts, it's never really okay just to blog for money - it simply doesn't work.

Blogging must come from the heart. It is important to choose a niche (topic) that is close to your heart - something that you are interested in and passionate about. If you don't have that passion, you really don't have anything at all - and your readers will quickly realize it.

So, even if you do hope to make money from your blogging efforts, make sure that you choose a topic that really, honestly means something special to you. Otherwise, simply don't bother.

If You Are Going to Blog...

...Blog Well

There is an incredible number of 'junk' blogs out there today, just wasting space. So, simply put, if you are going to blog, do a good job of it.

Doing a good job of blogging means several things. It means that you write well - or pay someone else to write well. It means that you stick to your topic. It means that the posts that you make are on topic and that when you post, you actually have something worth saying.

Good blogging goes beyond what you put on your blog, however. It also means becoming a very real, and quite valued member of the blogosphere. It means that you visit other people's blogs, that you comment on those blogs, and that you trackback to those blogs in your own blog posts.

You may be blogging for money, but this doesn't mean that you shouldn't play by the established rules of the blogosphere!

The Most Important Thing...

...is to blog often, and to blog well. Write what you know, and write extensively about it.

The Best Way to Promote A Blog...

...is within the blogging community, known lovingly as the blogosphere.

Today, there are many resources for promoting a blog. It is easier to promote a blog than it is to promote a traditional website. You just have to know what tools to use.

The best tools for promoting a blog, within the blogosphere is social networking, social bookmarking, SQUIDOO, commenting on other popular and relevant blogs, and sending trackbacks to those same blogs.

Of course, pinging your blog is also highly recommended, so that the ping services can notify blog directories that you have updated. Because those blog directories are indexed seemingly daily by the search engines, and the search engines follow links, this means that by updating and sending pings for your blog, the search engines will visit your blog more often.

How to Find Blog Topics

When Writer's Block Hits Home

Writing a blog is seemingly easy...until you have to do it day in and day out. Then, although you had a million and one ideas in the beginning, reality hits home, and after a few weeks of blogging, you stare endlessly at that post form, waiting for an idea to pop in your head.

Sometimes it happens, and sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't, this is a problem for you, your blog, and of course for your readers - not to mention your wallet.

The best way to combat this is to be prepared with pen and paper - or keyboard and text document. Keep an ongoing list of topics for your blog. The best time to do this is when you first think up your main blog topic, but unfortunately, few people realize just how hard writer's block is going to eventually hit them.

If you don't keep a running list, or ideas haven't come forth to put on that list, the next option is to keep abreast of news concerning the topic that is close to your heart. This way, you can blog about news that is important to your readers. One way to stay on top of things is to sign up for Google News topics to be delivered directly to your inbox, as they are published.

Another option to find blog topics is, of course, to visit related blogs. Write a brief synopsis or introduction for their blog post, which will be of interest to your readers, and send a trackback to that blog (link to it). This is also a fabulous way to build up readership for your own blog. This isn't, of course, something that you want to always do, since your readers visit your blog to hear your views on the topic, and not someone else's.

Read magazines, watch movies, step away from the computer and be a part of the world, with close attention being paid to your topic. The blog ideas will come :)

From Wikipedia...

A blog (a contraction of the term "weblog")Weblogs: A History And Perspective, Rebecca Blood, September 7, 2000. is a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog''.

Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject; others function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, Web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs. Most blogs are primarily textual, although some focus on art (artlog), photographs (photoblog), sketches (sketchblog), videos (vlog), music (MP3 blog), and audio (podcasting). Micro-blogging is another type of blogging, featuring very short posts.

As of December 2007, blog search engine Technorati was tracking more than 112 million blogs.

Different Ways to Make Money With Your Blog

There are literally hundreds of ways to make money with a blog, but for the sake of time and space, right now, I'll just highlight the easiest ways to make money with a blog.

Affiliate marketing, combined with a blog, is the absolute easiest, cheapest way to start generating an income with your blog. Sign up for relevant affiliate programs, and post reviews of those products on your blog.

If you have a product of your own, write about it on your blog. Join Amazon, and recommend books related to your topic. Sign up with some Pay-Per-Click services, and even Pay-Per-Post services.

As your readership grows, and a little income starts flowing in, you can start looking at more advanced methods of cashing in with a blog. For now, give these methods a try.
