How to Promote Small Business Site

Find out about 2 ways to promote your website. Learn the difference between organic traffic, and PPC advertising, and learn how to use each one for your small business.

Making Your Small Business Organic

Should we work on SEO? Or PPC advertising?

Every small business owner must decide how they plan to promote their business. Some of these people choose to create a web presence, by creating a site for there company.

If you don't already have a website for your small business, you can learn more about creating one here:

Once they create their website they still need to advertise it. After searching the web, they will come across many options for advertising. The 2 main ones that they will encounter are PPC and SEO.

PPC is Pay Per Click advertising. This is where you pay other websites to bring visitors to your site, by displaying ads on their site. You will pay for every click that they send to your website.

SEO tries to get traffic from the search engines (Google, Yahoo, etc.). The way SEO works is that you find keywords that get many searches daily, but that have little competition. You then try to build backlinks, that will help develop those particular keywords so that when you do a Google (or any other search engine) search, your result will be high on the list. Ideally first.

Ideally any website should use both of these methods of advertising to get traffic to their site, however, this is not always possible do to budget constraints, and even if it is possible, the question still remains: What should I do more of?

This page's article will try to explore the benefits of both options, so that you can make a more informed decision about how to approach your websites marketing campaigns.

SEO Benefits:

Appears Less Biased - The majority of people don't know how online advertisements work. In fact most of the time they don't even realize that ads online are ads. However, there are some people who do know that the advertisements are ads. They will be more skeptical about buying a product they see in a PPC ad, than they will be if they find the website through a search engine.

More Permanent - SEO allows you to reap the benefits of your efforts and money for a few months after you finish the marketing campaign. It is not uncommon to see SEO campaigns still having an effect on a websites traffic months or even years later.

People are Ready To Buy - When people do a search for your product there is a good chance that they are interested in buying it. This means that they probably already have an idea of what the product does, this means that you do not have to do very much selling to try to get the visitors to buy your product.

PPC Benefits:

Results Immediately - If you do PPC advertising, you will begin to see results nearly immediately. Probably even in the same day.

Figuring Out CPM - You can easily test how many sales you get per 1000 page views and how much money you make from those 1000 page views. This is known as your CPM. PPC gives you a better idea of how much your website makes per page view.

Better Statistics - With PPC advertising, you can easily find out how your website is really performing. You will know how much money you make per page views, you will know how many page views it takes to get a sale. You will be able to get firm statistics from which you will be able to do research that can allow your website to become 2, 5, 10, or even 100 times more profitable!

PPC is much better for research purposes, and it is much better for those looking to receive a consistent ROI (Return On Investment). SEO is better for those who are willing to take more risk, and are interested in a more long term effect. People doing SEO shouldn't care as much about statistical data, but should just be interested in making some profit.

If you don't already have a Website For Your Small Business, I highly recommend that you create one. To learn more about creating a website for your small business, please click here:
