Public Relations. How to use, and benefit your company.

PR in the modern business, small and large

PR or Public Relations is part of a companies overall marketing organisation, but separate from normal marketing and nothing to do with advertising. This Lens will try to show the benefits of using PR to promote your company and as a tool for crisis management.

There is good news to tell, and bad news to counteract. Helping small and large companies is my hobby.

Public Relations.

Many companies produce press releases, publish online, send to news agregators, journalists etc., this is a form of Public Relations, but it goes much deeper. Take for example the problem Toyota is having with the 4 million cars being recalled to fix a design fault with the accelerator. Bad news for the company, it's reputation and sales.

This is a crisis that the correct type of Public Relations can help reduce the effect and reassure the existing owners and future owners, that Toyota is taking the matter very seriuosly and has the solution ready to install. In the end it is still marketing, but from a total diferrent direction. Public Relations can work with good and bad news and still make the company seem a winner.

There are recognised areas of Public Relations, product, financial, environmental, crisis and staff relationships.

There is no limit to the methods you can use.

As the world becomes more and more inter-connected, and as publications, television, radio all now discuss the Internet and many provide links to url for additional information. If people do not have their own computer in poorer countries, they can now use Internet Café's. As a Pr firm you will use many traditional methods, but the newer technologies available on the Internet are really worth considering.

Facebook is available to created a group that individuals can join and is a great way to spread the information to interested people. Everybody has now heard of Twitter, use by dissidents worldwide and also by companies and American Presidents. Using Squidoo can have your PR message index within hours as the company is listed in the top 500 websites, where are you listed?

Probably the most used is YouTube, highly effective.
