Money Saving Tips 1-10 (General Tips)

dollar signSaving money is a big deal, but that does not mean it has to be hard to do. To start off all you really need to know is how to begin saving money.

After the initial start, you will find hundreds of things in your life that you can tweak to get some extra savings.

In the end you just need a start. The rest will come to you from there.
  1. Start Cooking Your Own Food - Going out is just to expensive to start doing now. Learn to cook your own food and you will definitely start saving. You'll find that a meal that would of cost you $20 in some cafe would cost you around $5 if you made it at home.
  2. Cut Coupons - Coupons are just there for the taking. All you need to do is sit down for a few minutes. Pick out the grocery store you are planning on going to for a shopping trip and then just sit down and cut some coupons. It doesn't take a mad scientist to learn how to cut coupons.
  3. Turn off lights you are not using - The idea is simple. Just turn off the lights when you are not in a room. You don't need the bedroom lights on for fifteen minutes because the "game is on" and you will turn them off during a commercial. Just turn them off.
  4. Get Rid of Nasty Debt - Debt will not help you save money. If you have debt, get rid of it before you begin trying to save any money. I recommend checking out Financial Success Tips From Dave Ramsey

  5. Don't Use ATMs If You Are Charged - If your bank charges for ATM transactions, then just don't use them. if you need money, plan ahead and go to your bank to get some extra cash. Tip: Get more then you think you might need.
  6. Don't buy on impulse - Simply put, don't buy anything just because you want it. It is a bad habit, but one that can be easily broken if you apply the 30 day method. If it is something that you don't NEED then just wait 30 days and see if you still want it. Remember, if you can't afford it, then don't buy it.
  7. Ride Your Bike or Walk For Short Rides - If you plan on going somewhere local, then it doesn't take much to just get your bike out and just ride it there. There is no reason to waste gas for such small distances.

It's also great for your health!
  8. When going shopping, make a list - When you shop it is hard to stay focused on only the things you need. To help direct the focus and fight against the tyranny of wasteful spending make a list with only the things you need. Then just stick to the list.
  9. Don't Buy Bottled Water - There is no reason to pay $1 for a bottled water every time you are thirsty. It is much more cost efficient if you just buy a filter and just fill up a refillable bottle whenever you are on the go.
  10. Rent Books if You Can - Reading is a great way to learn new skills and get new ideas, but it is expensive if you buy all of the books you want to read. Before you decide on buying a book, check with a local library or friend to see if they have a book you can borrow before going out and paying for a copy. If you read as much as some people do, then just learning to borrow books can save you up to $100 a month.
