Causes of Pregnancy Acne

Although the causes of pregnancy acne (increased oil production, bacteria, hormonal affects, medications and vitamin deficiencies) are the same, but the skins reaction is much more sensitive.

Another skin disorder that affects pregnant women is melasma, which is a discoloration of the upper lip, nose and forehead.  The discoloration is often dark and can resemble the reddened area of the skin before a pustule, papule or whitehead erupts.

7 Quick Tips to Reduce Pregnancy Acne

There are some quick tips to reducing pregnancy acne and still protecting the health of the baby.

1. Women should clean their skin twice a day with mild soap and a soft cloth. This will keep the skin free of oils that clog the follicles and lead to pimples, pustules and papules.

2. Use an oil absorbent microfiber cloth while washing your face to absorb the oil from your face while gently cleaning.

3. Use plenty of water to wash away soap residual from your face wash that can irritate your skin and cause skin stress to initiate acne.

4. Keep your hands away from the acne and rub gently while washing to keep the potential for spreading of bacteria to other parts of your body.

5. Exercise daily to increase blood circulation, decrease your stress and improve tone that will decrease the risk of pregnancy acne.

6. Keep your skin dry and use an oil-free moisturizer five minutes after drying your skin.

7. Before eating fruits and vegetables they should be washed to remove herbicides, pesticides and other antibiotics that affect the growing baby and the health of your skin.

What a Pregnant Women Should Know

Pregnant women should have knowledge about the precautions on Acne Treatment. Knowing what to do and not from a skin expert could help them avoid putting their pregnancy at risk. The last thing you want to do is put the baby at risk.

Tetracycline, Salicyclic Acid, Tretinon, and Isotrentinoin intake may lead to serious effects like poor bone growth and yellowish teeth of the baby, birth defects, miscarriage, and infant death. Prevention of these medications while pregnant should be prioritized by pregnant women.

Though controlling acne while pregnant can be risky it is still possible for pregnant women to achieve pimple free skin. A few simple remedies may do the trick. Just follow these steps, and you can be acne-free very soon.

They should wash their faces two to three times a day with a mild oil-free cleanser and luke warm water, they may also use natural skin care product that are for pregnant women. They should also drink lots of water to promote hydration of the skin. They should also avoid touching and pricking the acne.

Once the baby is born, acne will start to disappear. There may be acne marks that will remain but various treatments would now be available. Acne during pregnancy isn't something to stress about anymore.

Pregnant Women Should Never Take Accutane

Acne during pregnancy is not often severe. Because of the hormonal changes in your body affect the oil production and sensitivity of the skin they also affect the risk of pregnancy acne such as whiteheads, blackheads, pimples and pustules.

There are specific criteria for medications that can or cannot be taken for pregnancy acne. Before taking any medication, whether prescription or over the counter, you should always consult with your doctor taking care of your prenatal care. Most medications, both over the counter and prescription, have affects on the growth and development of a baby.

Women who are pregnant should never take Accutane because of the high risk of birth defects and miscarriage. Retin-A is a cream derivative of Vitamin A that should also not be taken during pregnancy for the same reasons of birth defects and miscarriage. Tetracycline is a common antibiotic for acne but when taken during pregnancy it can affect the color of the baby's teeth and growth of the bones.

The best defense against pregnancy acne is a good offense. Skin care described above, good nutrition, decrease stress levels and avoiding foods that you know affects your skin will decrease your risk of Pregnancy Acne.

Value Added Content for Pregnancy Acne

Acne vulgaris (commonly called acne) is an extremely common skin condition, caused by changes in pilosebaceous units, skin structures consisting of a hair follicle and its associated sebaceous gland, via androgen stimulation. It is characterized by noninflammatory follicular papules or comedones and by inflammatory papules, pustules, and nodules in its more severe forms. Acne vulgaris affects the areas of skin with the densest population of sebaceous follicles; these areas include the face, the upper part of the chest, and the back. Severe acne is inflammatory, but acne can also manifest in noninflammatory forms.eMedicine - Acne Vulgaris : Article by Julie C Harper Acne lesions are commonly referred to as pimples, blemishes, spots, zits, or simply acne.

Acne occurs most commonly during adolescence, affecting more than 89% of teenagers, and frequently continues into adulthood. In adolescence, acne is usually caused by an increase in male sex hormones, which people of both genders accrue during puberty.

For most people, acne diminishes over time and tends to disappear?or at the very least decrease?after one reaches one's early twenties. There is, however, no way to predict how long it will take to disappear entirely, and some individuals will carry this condition well into their thirties, forties and beyond.Anderson, Laurence. 2006. Looking Good, the Australian guide to skin care, cosmetic medicine and cosmetic surgery. AMPCo. Sydney. ISBN 0 85557 044 X.

The face and upper neck are the most commonly affected, but the chest, back and shoulders may have acne as well. The upper arms can also have acne, but lesions found there are often keratosis pilaris, not acne. Typical acne lesions are comedones, inflammatory papules, pustules and nodules. Some of the large nodules were previously called "cysts" and the term nodulocystic has been used to describe severe cases of inflammatory acne.

Aside from scarring, its main effects are psychological, such as reduced self-esteem and, according to at least one study, depression or suicide. One study has estimated the incidence of suicidal ideation in patients with acne as 7.1%:* Acne usually appears during adolescence, when people already tend to be most socially insecure. Early and aggressive treatment is therefore advocated by some to lessen the overall impact to individuals.
