Mehndi or more commonly (in our western world) called Henna is an ancient practice. It is applied to the mothers belly during the third trimester. The different images painted into the pattern are believed to protect and bless the mother and child during delivery and ward off any evil spirits which may be present.

Applying the henna can be a relaxing and soothing experience for mama. The gentle stroking of the belly can be calming and the coolness of the mixture can be soothing to hot skin.

Be creative! It doesn't have to be an intricate design only!

A note of warning: do not use henna that chemical dyes have been added to. if you are severly anemic or your baby has G6PD deficiency please consult your doctor.
