Prepara Power Plant Mini

Have you ever wanted to garden, but you live in an area that just doesn't get warm enough? You should look into Hydroponic Gardening. There are many different ways to set up a Hydroponic Garden. I prefer the easier already built method. I've had the Aerogarden Classic and now I own the Prepara Power Plant Mini. Actually I own three of the minis. I am going to experiment and see what grows best.

Hydroponic Gardening Via Wiki.

Hydroponics (From the Greek words hydro, water and ponos, labor) is a method of growing plants using mineral nutrient solutions, in water, without soil. Terrestrial plants may be grown with their roots in the mineral nutrient solution only or in an inert medium, such as perlite, gravel, mineral wool, or coconut husk.

Researchers discovered in the 19th century that plants absorb essential mineral nutrients as inorganic ions in water. In natural conditions, soil acts as a mineral nutrient reservoir but the soil itself is not essential to plant growth. When the mineral nutrients in the soil dissolve in water, plant roots are able to absorb them. When the required mineral nutrients are introduced into a plant's water supply artificially, soil is no longer required for the plant to thrive. Almost any terrestrial plant will grow with hydroponics. Hydroponics is also a standard technique in biology research and teaching.

The Prepara Power Plant Mini

This is the model that I am using.

The mini model is great for windowsill gardening. I chose the smaller version based on price and the reviews. I've been known to go bigger since I do own the 7 pod classic Aerogarden. That thing is a monster. It's super noisy, bright and takes up a lot of space. I am going to be moving into an apartment soon and I needed to find something that wouldn't take over my limited counter space.

What Grows Well In A Prepara Power Plant Mini?

The hydroponic indoor garden

I've been asking myself this for a few days. I have even searched google many times to find the right types of plants and herbs to grow. There just isn't any real concrete sources to give me ideas on what to grow. I did however find a blog that was written by someone who works for Prepara and helped design the mini. I have taken some ideas from the blog and decided to make my own blog and record my experiences. I'll be keeping this page and my blog updated with pictures and stories.

My Prepera Power Plant Mini Starter Seeds.

I chose a variety of seeds to start with. I did end up buying four different varieties, and I only have three prepara minis. I am thinking about doing the peppers at a later date since I'm not a huge fan of them. They will be grown and donated to my father who loves spicy peppers.

I've always been a fan of basil so that is my number one choice for gardening. It's easy to do and I love making pizza with it. I mainly wanted the genovese basil, but I got a mixture so I could try them out.

If you like micro greens then you should check out the packet below. Personally I haven't tried them and I think it would be great to mix it up. The blog that I read also used the same seed packet so I chose it based on that. Which is the same reason I chose the Mesclun Mix.

Prepara Grow Light For The Mini And Professional.

I am toying with the idea of getting a grow lamp for my Mini's. I don't want to buy three of them, but I may have to break down and buy at least one. If you're wondering why I would want a special grow lamp then let me explain. As you all know plants need light and usually they get it from the sun. Well my Mini's are going to be plugged into an outlet indoors. I an hoping that I can find a place that has a windowsill, but most apartments that I've looked at do not. I am working towards renting a house that would have what I need. If not I can just buy an affordable grow lamp.

Prepara has one designed specifically for the Mini and Power Plant Professional. You can also use it for your house plants. Sounds like a winner to me. I just don't want to buy three of them. So I will have to compromise and find a sunny spot for the other two. At least until I can win enough gift cards from searching the web with Swagbucks. I have enough amazon gift cards to buy myself one grow lamp and I can probably earn enough to buy 3 within 2 months though. So keep checking back to see pictures of my seedlings and hopefully grow lamps!
