Everyday Arts and Crafts for Preschoolers

Every day your preschooler wakes up ready for excitement! Their little minds are brimming with creativity and it's your job as a caregiver to make sure you provide ample opportunities for them to grow in that area - and arts and crafts are a perfect gateway into self esteem and artistic success.

Arts and crafts for preschoolers should be done on a regular basis - daily, if possible. It's not something a child should engage in only on holidays or other special occasions. Children at this age are just learning how to read and craft activities make them learn in a different way.

Crafts for preschool kids also provide motor skills. Molding playdough, for example, helps your child's hand muscles grow stronger so that his or her handwriting will be adequate once they reach school age. Cutting with safety scissors does the same thing.

Simple arts and crafts are all it takes to make a preschool child's eyes light up - whether they're painting, molding clay, or using colored sand to make art for their loved ones, they'll stay busy for hours if it means getting to express themselves with art supplies!

"This easel is a great buy! Very sturdy and high quality as most of Mellisa and Doug products. Colorful, kid friendly and easy to put together. Both the writing boards and the trays are adjustable for the height of your child. It folds up easy, but stands strong. This easel DOES have a place for a paper roll!! I did not think it did by the amazon description (I almost bought a more expensive one for the paper roll but decided to go with this and am so glad I did) ... the roll goes in the center between the boards and the paper comes up through the top and under a paper guide in front of the dry erase side. I can't image why you would spend more on another brand of easel, this one has everything I could think of wanting and is simple, solid wood, looks good and is super functional. This is the first review I have written, but wanted to pass on how happy I am with this product."

Preschool Arts and Crafts for Special Occasions

While your child will be creating arts and crafts every day, you can set aside special projects that take more than one day to complete for your preschool-aged child. These can be gifts they make for friends and family for Christmas, birthdays, or St. Patricks Day.

Many parents mistakenly believe that a Chuck E Cheese birthday party is the way to go for their preschooler, but did you know that your kids will have a ton of fun if you provide an at-home event with arts and crafts for birthday parties? The kids will all be engaged in their work and they'll love showing off their creations to each other.

There are many resources you, as a parent or caregiver can use to provide arts and crafts for your child. There are how-to books, local classes in your community, and even pre-made kits you can buy to make things simple.

Arts and crafts videos that show you how to work with preschool children to make origami creations, for instance, are also a big hit because you can see the lesson plan for the activity in action.

Making Arts and Crafts Fun for Your Preschooler

Arts and crafts are supposed to be fun. Yet art time means messy time, and this can cause a lot of anxiety for parents who see the room at risk for disaster. Here are some tips to help make arts and crafts a pleasant experience for your preschool-aged child:

1.) Set aside a special arts and crafts activities area. Don't put an easel and paints on your new carpet if you're concerned about it. Find a tiled area or spread an old sheet over the floor to prevent damages.

2.) Remember that messes can always be cleaned up. If you're buying preschool arts and crafts supplies, then you'll be happy to know most of them are washable and non-toxic. If a little gets on your floor or your child, it can be wiped up without worry.

3.) Figure out how much time your child can spend creating. You may or may not want to limit the amount of time your preschooler spends on his or her arts and crafts. Sometimes little ones get bored and then start making a bigger mess just to make it more fun. Watch for signs if your child is becoming disinterested in the activity.

Start an arts and crafts playtime in your home today. It doesn't mean you have to go out and spend a small fortune on items - everyday household gear will work. Over time you can buy a lot of discount supplies as they go on sale and stock up on them for future activities.
