Where do you start?
Many parents worry that teaching their preschooler the wrong way could do more harm than good but that is not true. Simply start out with fun playful activities that help your child learn their shapes, colors, letters, and numbers. Do not try to "teach" your child these concepts. Just play and enjoy your child and talk about those concepts as you do and you will be surprised how quickly your child learns!
Some toys that will help
You don't really need special tools, books, or toys to teach your child shapes, colors, letters, and numbers. You can use toys and household items and real world objects as well. However, these are a few games and toys that I found it useful to use. This also has the advantage of helping your child's small motor skills which will be useful later on when it comes time to pick up a pencil
The next step
After you have helped your child learn those foundational skills then you can work on important literacy skills.
