Ranked #2,354 in Arts & Design, #32,816 overall

You may have bought your first oil painting, to add that touch of style to your study, living room, or bedroom.

You may have bought your first oil painting, to add that touch of style to your study, living room, or bedroom. Oil paintings are beautiful additions to the house, and are great conversation pieces as well. They may even be a nice investment, but for any of these draws of the oil painting to stay true they must be taken care of in a proper manner. Here are some simple steps in the preservation of the worth and appearance of your new oil painting.

Always check the location where you intend to place your piece. Always avoid any area that is liable to extreme heat or icy, or humidity. This includes places like over the fire and in a front room that isnt normally heated. Also keep in mind that extended sunlight will cause the paint to fade, and select the location accordingly.

A layer of dust will also spoil the painting, as it will tend to dry the oil colors out and therefore fade the piece. Dust your painting regularly, but keep in mind not to make use of surface cleaners. A dry and soft cloth will suffice.

When moving the piece from location to location, whether to a different room or a different building, make definite lay a flat piece of cardboard, a mat, or other firm material on both the front & the back of the picture, & then wrap it in Styrofoam or bubble wrap. Keep in mind that moisture build up will destroy the piece, so if it must be left wrapped up for a long time period store it in a dry place.

If your painting is destroy despite your best efforts, do not try to retouch or repair it yourself. In lieu, bring it to a professional conservator who can do the job properly.

Following these instructions will aid you in keeping your oil painting in top condition, and ensuring it will continue to give you enjoyment for years.

Royal Riches Original Artwork MADART Canvas Print / Canvas Art - Artist Megan Duncanson

Born in 1972, Megan Aroon Duncanson grew up in Alaska within a small fishing village in Meyers Chuck, with only boats and float planes to be reached, and wood stoves to provide heat, she had lived the very original and simple life with her parents. Her family that was very much artistically inclined affected her, and to have an award that was given to her at the age of nine, her passion for art had never stopped. She had much love for the heated latitude; inspirations for creating paintings then comes pouring in, and to assist her recordings for her experiences of traveling in such surroundings.

As a contemporary artist, Megan Aroon Duncanson's paintings depicts those places of which would be considered as the most ideal places to travel, they represent memories of happiness and the passionate love for any exotic tropical cities, and its invigorating energy that was meant to be enjoyed. Living in one of the most erotic places in the world, from the very natural part of Alaska, and to the tropical paradises, Hawaii and Florida, allows her to turn her canvases from plain view into a tropical wonderland, with palm trees dancing in the heated atmosphere, and the deep blue sea with set sail boats drifting along the horizon, enthralling sunset, voluminous lights of the city at night, and sparkling water in a glass. Her inspirations mainly are taken from nature and ordinary everyday objects; trees, boats, birds, vigorous sunsets, water, palm trees, cities, and martinis, objects that she can see, hear, taste, smell and touch.

In her work there is some existence of cubism, a slight shadow of the old master Pablo Picasso, along with some beautiful brush mark making, adding to the formerly colorful creation. Her paintings effect each individual and for each to have their own very unique experience and feeling, and at the same time, to absolutely provide an aggrandized meaning for the definition of life. There is also a constant hope that each individual will receive her sincere message and the joy of sharing her art to the world. As a proud mother of one and a very loving wife, Megan Aroon Duncanson continues to search in the raw nature, and her adventurous future, the love to explore around the world, or to the strange side of the ocean, there are and will be some definite answers and hopes of getting more inspiration for her up coming paintings.

Artist Guido Borelli da Caluso was born in 1952, in Caluso, Italy at the foothills of the Italian Alps. Born into an artistic family, (his grandfather was a woodcarver and furniture maker, and his paternal uncle and aunt paint) young Guido first discovered painting somewhere between the ages of 4 to 6 years old. With the encouragement of his family, Guido's first art challenge came at age 13 in the form of a public award. Although he did not win this art award, he continued to make artistic strides, and had his first personal art exhibit at the young age of 17. He received his art training at Accademia Albertina, in Turin, which was founded in 1672, at the special request of the King. Beginning with Guido's first exhibition at the Ars Plauda Gallery in Turin, Italy in 1969, he has continued to have exhibitions around the world in Catania, Uruguay, Holland, Egypt, United Kingdom, Malta, Norway, Germany, United States, Spain, USSR, Bulgaria, France, Poland, Costa Rica, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Japan. In addition to these rotating exhibitions, he has permanent exhibitions at Gallery 1000 in Carmel by the Sea,CA,Galleria Bella in New Orleans,LA,Galerie Art Passion in St Paul de Vence,France and at the Galleria d'arte Portofino in Portofino, Italy.

"I am a true lover of nature and of everything gentle. My landscapes and houses combine reality and imagination. First, I store in my mind all views that I find interesting. Later, when I need a subject, those views resurface in my memory, and I paint what I selectively remember of them, with intrinsically personal modifications." - Guido Borelli

Guido's painting style is influenced by the Italian realistic style beginning in the 1900's, especially by the artists Boldini and De Nittis. Inspired by the movement of shadows, his oil paintings reflect nature as their focal points depicting Italian landscapes, homes and villas of Northern Italy and the Alps. Today his work is highly acclaimed and he has worldwide collectors.

Sea Turtle Love - Orange and White Canvas Print / Canvas Art - Artist J Vincent Scarpace

J. Vincent Scarpace, Artist.
Age 38
b.1971 Buffalo, New York
Married to beautiful Melanie, June 2001.

The original works of J. Vincent Scarpace (best known for his abstract fish art) represent, in his own words, "a personal journey through the use of basic of art elements: line, shape, and color - resulting in an arrival, just past experimentation, at unique works of art which purposely resemble fish." He's followed his passion for the creative process, discovering that therein may lay the true reason for his next work of art - the pursuit of one's own creative potential.

J. Vincent knew from an early age exactly what he wanted to do with his life. Born to loving, creative, and supportive parents and family, he was encouraged from about age 2 to pursue line, shape, and color, and the creation of art. J's mother, an artist in her own right, taught young J. Vincent how to enjoy drawing, painting, and sculpture very early on. Having a fundamental knowledge of the basic art elements (even before reading and writing, some say) helped J. Vincent to build his own reasons and reality toward eventually deciding that his fate and future was held within the creative process.

J. Vincent's works have evolved and grown over the years, and he's paid his dues through a dedication to the pursuit of his passion and the creative process he so believes in. Having worked as an apprentice, production artist, and studio artist since his age of reason, he's sacrificed many other worthwhile endeavors in the name of his.

Caretaker Canvas Print / Canvas Art - Artist Snake Jagger

Snake JaggerPalm Springs, Ca - United States

Born in Los Angeles in 1955, Jagger spent much of his time in the Palm Springs area where his father was employed by Frank Sinatra. The Southern California outdoor life-style and the glamour of the entertainment world helped shape the artist's perspective. He managed to combine his dual goals of living close to the land and entertaining people in his ideal career as an artist.

Jaggers paintings are a blend of fact and fantasy. He begins with what he knows best - the California Desert - and transforms that raw material into novel images that amaze and delight. His meticulous technique details every rock and pebble, cactus thorn and palm frond, giving it an intense presence. This hyper-realism makes the images seem uncanny, too perfect to be real.

Another favourite conceit is his special use of frames and shaped canvases. Some paintings are set in picture frames that double as window frames. It is as if you are looking through a window at a distant vista. In other paintings, Snake paints various borders around the edge of his compositions, which makes his paintings seem theatrical.

Jagger's interest in order began as a young child. Today he paints as an orderly place, as if each object has been carefully placed by a master gardener. His landscapes are too pristine, too perfect. But that is their appeal. For Jagger, the desert offers escape. His paintings allow us to share his sense of adventure.

Frank StrasserVenice, CA - United States

Frank Strasser is a self-taught artist. He was born in Culver City, California, in 1954. As a grammar school student, he displayed gifts for writing, music, drawing and rebellion. One year, he received an art set for Christmas. Thus began a lifelong love affair with painting.

He continued experimenting in high school, took a few art classes in college and devoured books on art and literature. At 21, in 1976, he earned a BA in English from Loyola Marymount University. After graduation his real education began.

At 24, Frank quit a menial job, sold his VW Bug, bought a Eurail pass and a one way ticket to London. Utlimately, he toured nine countries, visiting every art museum and empty church he discovered along the way.

In Amsterdam, Frank was profoundly inspired by the vibrant palette of Van Gogh. He spent April in Paris, where he fell madly in love with the French Impressionists. When his wild fling with wanderlust (and his money), ran out, he flew home to Los Angeles.

Frank found a studio near the historic Venice Canals, where he worked to capture the quirky beauty and local color of Venice, California, on canvas. He has exhibited at The Social and Public Arts Resource Center, The Terrace, Cafe Buna, and Very Venice Gallery.

His art has been featured in the Venice Historical Society Journal and Free Venice Beachhead. His bright and festive acrylic on canvas paintings are collected all over the world. He has continued to paint and perform music in Venice, CA, for over 30 years
