What can I say! I've been an Elvis Presley fan since he made his first record!
My humble collection of Elvis records does not come from a frantic search for anything "Elvis", but from my buying his records because I enjoyed his music.
There are hundreds of sites dedicated to "The King" so you can find information about him anywhere. This little site is just my way of expressing my enjoyment of having lived through his most popular years, and attempting to bring as much about him as I can to one site.
Please take a few minutes and visit Dene's Place, our t-shirt and button shop. We offer a lot of original designs that you can't find anywhere else.

Elvis Aaron Presley (January 8, 1935 - August 16, 1977), was an American singer, musician and actor. He is a cultural icon, often known simply as Elvis; also "The King of Rock 'n' Roll", or simply "The King".Presley began his career as one of the first performers of rockabilly, an uptempo fusion of country and rhythm and blues with a strong back beat. His novel versions of existing songs, mixing "black" and "white" sounds, made him popular - and controversial - as did his uninhibited stage and television performances. He recorded songs in the rock and roll genre, with tracks like "Hound Dog" and "Jailhouse Rock" later embodying the style. Presley had a versatile voice and had unusually wide success encompassing other genres, including gospel, blues, ballads and pop. To date, he is the only performer to have been inducted into four separate music halls of fame.
In the sixties, Presley made the majority of his thirty-three movies - mainly poorly reviewed musicals. 1968 saw a critically-acclaimed return to live music, followed by performances in Las Vegas and across the U.S. Throughout his career, he set records for concert attendance, television ratings and recordings sales. He is one of the best-selling and most influential artists in the history of popular music. His death, at the age of 42, shocked his fans worldwide.

Best-selling Music Artist
Elvis Presley was an American rock, pop, gospel and country singer whose professional career spanned from 1954 until his death in 1977. Posthumously, he has continued to sell records in large numbers, reaching number 1 on both singles and album charts around the world. Presley is reported to have sold over one billion singles and albums, which would make him the biggest-selling solo artist of all time. As of 2006, over a quarter century after his death, Presley still holds the top spot for best-selling solo artist in U.S. history, according to the RIAA.Presley has had 149 top 100 singles in the US,[10] and he has also had 150 RIAA-certified gold awards for his albums, EPs and singles, many of which have been certified platinum and multi-platinum.
According to the RIAA, 97 of Presley's albums account for his 118.5 million album tally in the US alone. In addition, Presley is due certification for 120 additional albums. While it is roughly estimated that 60% of Presley's worldwide sales, for singles and albums alike, have been in the United States, this is sometimes disputed as Presley has been reported to sell well over 19 million singles in the United Kingdom, a figure that is more than a third of the US tally.

Hound Dog
"Hound Dog" is a twelve-bar blues written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller and originally recorded by Willie Mae "Big Mama" Thornton in 1952. Other early versions illustrate the differences among blues, country, and rock and roll in the mid 1950s. The 1956 remake by Elvis Presley is the best known version. This is the version that is #19 on Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. "Hound Dog" was also recorded by 5 country singers in 1953 alone, and over 26 times through 1964.Elvis Presley first performed "Hound Dog" to a nation wide televsion audience on The Milton Berle Show on June 5, 1956, his second appearance with Berle. This performance included the upbeat version that would later be recorded, followed by a slow, bluesy rendering. Presley's movements were energetic and exaggerated. The reactions of young women in the studio audience were enthusiastic, as shown as part of the broadcast. Berle's network received letters of protest, and the various self appointed guardians of public morality attacked Elvis in the press.
Elvis next appeared on national television singing "Hound Dog" on the July 1 Steve Allen Show. Steve Allen wrote: "When I booked Elvis, I naturally had no interest in just presenting him vaudeville-style and letting him do his spot as he might in concert. Instead we worked him into the comedy fabric of our program...We certainly didn't inhibit Elvis' then-notorious pelvic gyrations, but I think the fact that he had on formal evening attire made him, purely on his own, slightly alter his presentation." Presley wore a tuxedo and sang an abbreviated version of Hound Dog to an actual top hat-wearing basset hound.
The song was recorded for RCA Victor by Elvis' regular band of Scotty Moore on lead guitar (with Elvis usually providing rhythm guitar), Bill Black on bass, D.J. Fontana on drums and backing vocals from the Jordanaires. Presley recorded this version along with "Don't Be Cruel" and "Any Way You Want Me" on July 2, 1956 at RCA's New York City studio. The producing credit was given to RCA's Steve Sholes, however the studio recordings reveal that Elvis produced the songs himself, which is verified by the band members. Presley insisted on getting the song exactly the way he wanted it, recording 30 takes of the song before finally settling on take number 28.
"Don't Be Cruel" was the A-side of the "Hound Dog" single that was released on July 13, 1956. Both sides of the record topped the charts independently

Elvis Presley Discography (records)
From 1956 through 1962, Presley also achieved the rather unique distinction that, with the exception of the seven records released simultaneously on one day in August of 1956, not only did every one of his first 24 major label singles reach the top five, but astoundingly each of the b-sides except for three made the Top 40. During that time he also logged nine consecutive #1 hits in a row, if the seven simultaneously released singles are not included in the tally.
