My Press Release Template

See the press release that led to this article in Plane & Pilot magazine. I'm including four different press releases, and the magazine articles that came as a result of each release. This will be kind of "before and after", "cause and effect" learning, I hope. Finally, at the end, there is a generic press release template that I describe what I include in each paragraph. You can use this template to write your own releases.

If you'd like more helpful PR ideas, I have a PR Tool Kit full of them. Please sign up at www.publicityassociates.com/squidoo to learn much, much more.

I got my start in PR doing publicity for my own company - www.kiddieridesusa.com. My company has appeared in the likes of Time, CNN, Fortune, The Today Show, the Wall St Journal, CNBC, United Airline's magazine Hemispheres, Horse Illustrated, Boating, and a host of others.

The beauty of doing a publicity campaign is that there is no cost to getting in these magazines. It is FREE advertising.

Customized Vintage Soda Machines

For anyone who loves to fly, an airplane themed soda machine might be a fun addition to a home, office, or hangar. These machines can alternately be adorned with the logo of any aviation company, airplane manufacturer, a picture of a warbird, or whatever.

In addition to restoring vintage soda machines with the familiar Coke and Pepsi motifs, Denver-based American Soda Machines (ASM) customizes these beverage icons into all kinds of themes for individual buyers. ASM fittingly refers to a customized machine as "re-made to order".

Where the bespoke machines get installed is often a very fitting home...like an airplane themed machine being located in a hanger, or an equine decorated dispenser being placed in barn. Likewise, car themed pop machines often end up in garages, and movie tribute machines get placed in home theater rooms.

By customizing these machines, ASM is just further tapping into an existing love affair with these relics.

For over half a century, soda machines have been a fixture of American life. There have been multiple makes, models, and manufacturers over the years. The three primary classifications or styles of soda machines are sliders, round tops, and square top machines.

While the American Soda Machines restores and sells all three of these type machines, the square tops provide the best "canvas" for customization. There are also several makes and models of these square top machines. The one ASM most often uses is the Vendo 63 made by the Vendo company during the 1960s.

This Vendo 63 provides nice clean lines for the re-made to order creations. Its nice compact size (53"H x 27.5"W x 21.5" D) makes it easy to fit into a home, office, or wherever a buyer wants to put it. The machine can also be made to vend either bottles or cans.

The ASMgo art department can create just about anything a customer wants.

High resolution photos of this or any of our customized machines are available upon request.

Customized Vintage Soda Machines

For golfers wanting the perfect 19th Hole furnishing, a golf themed soda machine could be the answer to dispensing one's favorite beverage - no matter the alcohol content. These machines can alternately be adorned with the logo of a golfer's favorite course or with the emblem of their favorite golf ball or club maker.

In addition to restoring vintage soda machines with the familiar Coke and Pepsi motifs, Denver-based American Soda Machines (ASM) customizes these beverage icons into all kinds of themes for individual buyers. ASM fittingly refers to a customized machine as "re-made to order".

Press Release for The Stretch Truck Company

An article in Trailer Boat magazine follows this Pitch

Company: The Stretch Truck Company

Email: info@stretchtruck.com Web: www.stretchtruck.com
A stretch truck is unique truck for both their style and practicality for the boat enthusiast.

The Stretch Truck Company (www.stretchtruck.com) does what our name implies - we "stretch" trucks. While our trucks turn heads like a limousine, they remain fully functioning trucks for work or play. Words like "incredible", "rad", "hip", "stylin'", "awesome" have all been used to describe our stretch truck in parking lots around the nation.

As one of our customers / fathers said, "if we would have gone with a van we'd have given up all hope of ever being cool again!"

Our customers are the very same people that buy regular pickups and SUVs. However, they have a reason they want a stretched truck - large families, too many employees, people that want something unique to pull their boats, horse trailers, or RVs, or they just want a truck because they're COOL!

We take 4-door crew cab trucks and add a 5th & 6th door. Suddenly, a truck has a 9-passenger capacity. We do the same thing with SUVs like Ford Excursions. By adding a 5th & 6th door we increase the passengers count to eleven.

PR / Marketing Tool Kit

Marketing
If you don't know what "advertising equivalent value" is, you're missing the most important term in all marketing and advertising.

NOW a the Press Release Template for You to Learn From and Use

I hope you find this a good working template from which to write your own effective press releases and pitches.

Press Release Templates

I've included three things in this document. First, there is a release template where I've shown you kind of the format and what to put where. Then I've also included in this file press releases for two companies I've promoted following this structure. (After each of these releases, I also inserted a copy of the article in led to in a magazine). Interestingly, I've actually included two press releases and two very different magazines in which each has appeared. This will show you two things. First, you spin the very same a slightly different way and you can "hook" very different different media outlets. Secondly, you'll notice that the only thing that really changes in each of the two press releases from the same company is the opening paragraph.

I should tell you, too, there is really no right or wrong way to write a press release. Your simple objective is to just convince the media outlet that you have something that will be of interest to their audience. In fact, a simple two or three paragraph email with no form can be quite effective, too. My encouragement is just don't let the writing and format become the hurdle that keeps you from telling the media your story!

1st Paragraph - A fun opening paragraph that will get a reporter's attention.

2nd Paragraph - The second paragraph should be filled with the facts%u2026company name, your name, any facts that are important.

3rd Paragraph - Another colorful description of what you're offering. A quote from a customer works well here.

4th Paragraph & Beyond - You may or may not need additional paragraphs. As they say in journalism, "use as many words as you need to tell your story and not one word more." Keep it succinct. Remember, you're not writing the story that will appear in the article, you're simply trying to convince a journalist that whatever you're trying to promote is worth them writing a story about.
