I love to write in pretty writing journals - do you?

As a writer, I've grown to appreciate writing journals. The prettier they are, the more inspired I am to write in them. This encourages me to write more which hones my skills. Plus, writing in a beautiful journal is just plain fun.

Whenever I have a new project in mind, I buy a new journal. It puts me in the right frame of mind! I always browse until I find the perfect one, too. It has to be perfect otherwise I won't be inspired. All the journals pictured here are perfect, don't you think?

Tips on Choosing a Journal

Buy the journal that's right for you

There's an art to picking a journal that's right for you but it isn't necessarily a science. For me, it all depends on what I'll be using the journal for. I just recently bought a journal to do poetry and creative writing in and I knew I would need lots of space. So, I bought a larger one with lined pages and a pretty floral design on the cover.

But the next time I need a journal for that purpose, I could be in an entirely different mood. I may opt to pick a journal with a simple cover so I can decorate it myself. Or, I may not want lined paper in the journal - I may want it to be more like a sketch book. The important thing is that you go with whatever suits you.

I know, these aren't guidelines. But each person has their own method and style and therefore may end up with a different journal than the one I may pick out.

    Well i love writing for a start i do it nearly eveyday. Its like its part of my stole. I like big journals but with small lines so you can fit more in the first page. I wish I could skip school and write for the rest of my life. I even want to be a journalsit when I grow older because it involves writing :)

    I keep a journal, but not one of my day, one of my character's day. They're Squidoo lenses! I like the creativity you've put into this lens, and the lovely diaries. You should use quote boxes for the quotes! Blessed by the Creative And Commercial Writing Squid Angel.
