- The most widespread form of heart disease is high cholesterol. In the initial stages of the disease, lesions and cracks will form in the walls of blood vessel walls, usually close to the heart itself. The body will repair the damage by depositing fatty substances such as cholesterol and lipoproteins to fill the cracks. Aneurysm and Heart

- This is a great lens, Kirsti! My mom died from cardiomyopothy so I'm even more aware of the risk factors for women. I did try to comment on your blood pressure and cholesterol poll but it didn't take...I do monitor both. Am Squid Liking this page!

- MY father gave up smoking 20 years before his death. However, he smoked for over 40 years. Heart disease contributed to his death and I am sure that the smoking is what caused much of the damage.
If only people realised......

- I am with you there on promoting heart health awareness having lost my father, both parents in law, a cousin and an uncle to cardiac arrest. The sad fact is that if they had been more aware of how their lifestyle and diet worked against their chances of having a longer and less troubled life, it is possible that they might still have been with us today. High fat diets with prdominantly red meat plus no exercise ... a recipe for disaster. I don't know but maybe you and your readers might be interested in my first lens on this topic - http://www.squidoo.com/the-simple-way-to-a-healthier-heart.

- Heart attack treatment works best when it's given right after symptoms occur. If you think you or someone else is having a heart attack, call 9–1–1 right away. Best of luck..

- Please WARN WOMEN NOT TO GO OFF THEIR THYROID medication ever!!! I tried to go natural and it didn't work. Now I have atrial-fibrilation - dangerous and life threatening. If I had known the risk I was taking I would never have tried to self-medicate for Hashimotos - which no Doc told me I had in the last 20 years but I've finally gotten it diagnosed. (you have a broken link to Amazon)

- The prevalence of heart disease is growing partially because of how people don't see notice the effects until it has progressed too far. Healthy habits are key to long term health.

- Hi Kirsti. I came across your lens...Really Cool. Also a great article about Symptoms heart disease :-) Snoring is a bigger issue in relationships than what many of my friends and experts had originally thought. Snoring is a real problem that at times can separate a couple within their own home and eventually break up a marriage or relationship without really knowing that snoring was the original underlying culprit. Visit also my site and see some other cool stuff for people who snore!
