When I talk about a natural remedy for anxiety, I basically mean a remedy that does not require that you take any herbal medication or any other kind of natural supplement.

What happens every time you are finished having a panic attack, and you realize that you are going to live? You breathe a huge sigh of relief that you made it through another episode, and that sigh comes from deep breathing.

Ever noticed that after an attack you are exhausted? You are finally breathing normally, and all of that oxygen that you weren't getting during your anxiety attack is relaxing like it should. That is why deep breaths are so important to an anxiety sufferer, they really do work.

OK, this is pretty advanced for someone who is scared to death, but if you ever try it...you will see that it works every time.

Here is the basic idea, and it is exactly as scary as it sounds the first few times, but it does get easier...I promise that.

You feel the anxiety coming on, out of nowhere as usual. Your thoughts start to go in every direction, just like always and you find yourself getting close to a full-blown panic attack.

Let it happen!

You will be scared to death, but you still are not going to die....you never have before, have you? The very worst thing that is going to happen are all of the things that you have already been through. You will breathe very shallow, and your heart will be in your stomach, beating very rapidly.

Your senses will run wild with excitement, but you will still live to see another day. I know this doesn't sound like much fun, but do you know what you teach your mind when you do this repeatedly?

You are telling your mind that you are in control, and that panic and anxiety have no place in your world. You will no longer be agoraphobic, scared, or reluctant to live life. You will retrain your brain to think in a non-anxious way.

Again, this takes a lot of practice, and if you can't do it the first few times, don't worry. It is very scary, but you will feel really good the first time you do make it through extreme panic only to find that you are still alive and well.

It's the same thing that would happen if you were to be in cold water. It is your body's way of preparing to LIVE, and you can not go wrong with a technique like that.

The next time you are in a full-blown panic and you need some panic attack self-help, just splash some cold water on your face. Your body will not have a choice but to calm down...it's built into your basic bodily survival system.
