Want a No-Weight-Gain Christmas?

Know what foods to avoid

Don't blame the Christmas turkey, don't blame the sprout. Just blame yourself for not knowing what foods to avoid if you gain extra inches and pounds during Christmas! Below are some foods to avoid. You may have been aware of it, but this serves as a reminder. ;)

What makes you gain weight

Calorie-rich snacks you eat between meals - Christmas puddings, Christmas cakes and cookies, Yule logs, chocolates, etc.

How not to gain weight

  • Replace calorie-rich Christmas puddings with the low-fat or no-fat varieties.

  • Look for mince pies without pastry lids as a lower-calorie option.

  • Totally avoid Christmas Yule Log.

  • Don't overeat. Take small portions and enjoy your food slowly.

  • Avoid snacking on cookies. Go for carrot sticks or apples if you need to munch between meals.

  • Keep yourself occupied with activities to distract yourself from craving for a cherry pie or candies.

Alcohol!

Alcohol contains calories, so-called 'empty' calories with no real nutritional value.

How not to gain weight

  • Replace beer with wine, but only drink moderately. Wine, particularly red wine, is known to be rich in antioxidants and is better for your health compared to beer.

  • When drinking wine, mix it with low-calorie or sugar-free soft drinks to reduce your total calorie intake. Avoid soda though, as it is also a drink with high 'empty' calories.

Drink lots of water. It'll keep your skin hydrated during those winter months, prevent Christmas party hangover (hangovers are caused by dehydration) AND help you keep full and away from naughty snacks..
