The Adaptations of Jane Austen's Novels to See

There are so many adaptations of Austen's novels that it's easy to get lost.

Have you seen the best of them? Are you looking for a new one? Or simply want to see them at one place without having to look through many pages of repeated offers? This lens should help your choice.

It's also a great idea for a gift for Austen lover!

Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth

You Simply Must Have This One

As Above But in Blue Ray Quality

Pride and Prejudice [Blu-ray]

Amazon Price: $20.75 (as of 06/03/2012)Buy Now

This is the most faithful adaptation of the novel. It's nearly perfect!

If you loved the book, you must watch the TV series. If you liked the 2005 movie, you still should watch the series. If you have seen the series, you should buy the blue ray edition and relish the colours.

Keira Knightley and Matthew MacFadyen

Pride and Prejudice 2005 Movie

Pride & Prejudice [Blu-ray]

One of the greatest love stories of all time comes to the screen in a glorious new adaptation starring Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Bennet, Matthew MacFadyen as Mr. Darcy, and Judi Dench as Lady Catherine.

It's not my favourite adaptation, but there are people who like it.

1995 TV Series

emmakeynes says:

So much better! Much more feeling overall. Best version ever.

teriann says:

The selection of actors that portray these rich characters bring them to real life and it stays close to the story line. I've not found another I like better.

Aude says:

The 2005 was more accurate with respect ot wealth and the state of the Bennet house. They were also more accurate age wise, but although Colin Firth and Ehle were too old for the characters, their portrayal was equisite...

PizmoBeach says:

Colin Firth - that's all I need to say.

toriphile81 says:

Nothing tops this version. Beautiful told, almost verbatium to the book, perfect casting...wonderful :)

2005 Movie

top_10 says:

I liked the 2005 version.

Beaglelover says:

I loved the 2005 version. I think it's just a beautiful movie. I think that Matthew and Keira were the perfect Darcy and Lizzie. In fact, I think the whole cast was great. I loved Donald Sutherland as Mr. Bennett. I love Colin Firth but Matthew MacFayden will always be my Mr. Darcy.

Coco says:

Of course I prefer the 2005 version. After all, I think Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle were a bit too old to act as Darcy and Elizabeth, I mean, they were supposed to be veru young in the book.

This is real fun!

A clash of cultures, a musical, and a retelling of Jane Austen's classic PRIDE AND PREJUDICE is a hilariously entertaining tale of one girl's unlikely search for love! Sparks immediately fly as a love/hate relationship ignites between a small-town beauty (international star Aishwarya Rai) and a wealthy American (Martin Henderson -- THE RING, TORQUE) who's visiting her modest Indian village. In a swirl of music, dance, and comic misunderstandings, these opposites continue to attract and repel each other in a riotous romance that spans three continents! Featuring Naveen Andrews (TV's LOST, THE ENGLISH PATIENT) and a memorable performance from top recording artist Ashanti -- love will eventually conquer all in this acclaimed treat from the director of BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM!

Unfortunately Patricia Rosema's movie isn't a faithful adaptation, but at least it is a good film. Starring: Frances O'Connor, Hannah Taylor-Gordon, Talya Gordon, Lindsay Duncan, Bruce Byron, Jonny Lee Miller, Hugh Bonneville, and James Purefoy.

This fun and sexy comedy tells a timelessly entertaining story where wealth, secret passions, and mischievous women put love to the test ... with delightfully surprising results! When a spirited young woman, Fanny Price, is sent away to live on the great country estate of her rich cousins, she's meant to learn the ways of proper society. But while Fanny learns "their" ways, she also enlightens them with a wit and sparkle all her own! Featuring an exciting ensemble cast of young stars -- you'll join critics everywhere in their overwhelming praise of this smart, playful, and funny hit!

Someone imagined that Jane Austen's romance with Tom Lefroy was similar to Elizabeth Bennet's with Mr. Darcy. The effect is Pride and Prejudice without a happy end.

Still, it's a nice way to remind us that the authoress of our beloved novels was 20 years old when she wrote them.

Lovely Lens :) I adore Jane Austen's novels. Sense and Sensibility used to be my favourite, but I've really got into Northanger Abbey recently.

Any movie that requires actors to wear "costumes" is my kind of movie.

Did I watch "Pride & Prejudice" in the early 1990's starring Emma Thompson as Elizabeth Bennett on TV in California or have I gone completely insane??
