1995 Miniseries all the way. I love the fact that it is more accurate to the actual novel.

I agree nothing compares, I love the original, but the 2005 version is pretty good.

Coco says:
Of course I prefer the 2005 version. After all, I think Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle were a bit too old to act as Darcy and Elizabeth, I mean, they were supposed to be veru young in the book.

Bride and Prejudice
Bride and Prejudice
Bride and Prejudice
Amazon Price: $11.99 (as of 12/10/2009)![]()
This is real fun!
A clash of cultures, a musical, and a retelling of Jane Austen's classic PRIDE AND PREJUDICE is a hilariously entertaining tale of one girl's unlikely search for love! Sparks immediately fly as a love/hate relationship ignites between a small-town beauty (international star Aishwarya Rai) and a wealthy American (Martin Henderson -- THE RING, TORQUE) who's visiting her modest Indian village. In a swirl of music, dance, and comic misunderstandings, these opposites continue to attract and repel each other in a riotous romance that spans three continents! Featuring Naveen Andrews (TV's LOST, THE ENGLISH PATIENT) and a memorable performance from top recording artist Ashanti -- love will eventually conquer all in this acclaimed treat from the director of BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM!
Other Adaptations of Pride and Prejudice
Pride and Prejudice (BBC, 1980)
I don't like this adaptation and think it very poor, but there are people who love it. Starring Elizabeth Garvie and David Rintoul.
Release Date: 08/24/2004
Pride and Prejudice
It's a very wrong adaptation, far from the original, and the characters filling the screen in their dresses from Gone With the Wind. Yet it's very light, and has its Hollywood charm of old B&W movies. Starring Greer Garson and Laurence Olivier.
Release Date: 10/10/2006
Pride & Prejudice (2003)
It's an amateur version. Nothing great, yet better than some professional here.
Release Date: 07/27/2004
The Romantic Favorites Collection (Bridget Jones - The Edge of Reason / About a Boy / Love Actually / Notting Hill)
Bridget Jones Diary and The Edge of Reason starring Renee Zellweger, Hugh Grant and Colin Firth.

Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet

Unfortunately Patricia Rosema's movie isn't a faithful adaptation, but at least it is a good film. Starring: Frances O'Connor, Hannah Taylor-Gordon, Talya Gordon, Lindsay Duncan, Bruce Byron, Jonny Lee Miller, Hugh Bonneville, and James Purefoy.
This fun and sexy comedy tells a timelessly entertaining story where wealth, secret passions, and mischievous women put love to the test ... with delightfully surprising results! Becoming Jane
Becoming Jane [Blu-ray]
Amazon Price: $24.49 (as of 12/10/2009)![]()
Someone imagined that Jane Austen's romance with Tom Lefroy was similar to Elizabeth Bennet's with Mr. Darcy. The effect is Pride and Prejudice without a happy end.
Still, it's a nice way to remind us that the authoress of our beloved novels was 20 years old when she wrote them.

- I do like Davies's version above all. However, I gave my true opinion in reference to each of the films. I did enjoy Bride and Prejudice more than the 2005 movie for example. Yet there are many people who prefer the latter.

- Admit it, Andrew Davies mastered the 1995 Pride and Prejudice version. The Darcy, Lizzy characters lively exposed and Jane Austen peacefully and contently resting. History of such a novel has reached its peak to all nationality of people. To alter by modernizing the novel and its set century will only become entrance into the waste basket. Bravo cast, costume, make-up, propers, all for a job well successfully performed. PS, Reap the benefits.
