Teachers Report Assistant
Writing reports is a time consuming business for a teacher and a bone of contention for parents when they feel like they've been given a report that doesn't reflect their child's abilities. The Teacher's Report Assistant allows you to enter the student's name and sex before selecting the appropriate statements. The name and the correct pronouns are inserted into the statement, which can be edited within the program, before copy and pasting into the report. The web site has a good selection of statement banks ready for you to use or you can write your own. I gave this free program to all of the staff at my school last year and many said that it cut their report writing time in half.
Rainforest Maths
With maths activities for all learners from kindergarten to age eleven, Rainforest Maths is a favourite in my classroom. I often use this highly interactive website on my Promethean interactive whiteboard, but it can be used very effectively by individuals at home or in the classroom. BBC Schools
As part of its remit as a public service broadcaster, the BBC has produced a great deal of fantastic, flash powered resources. This site covers all ages and all curriculum subjects. If you are in the UK, Bitesize can help your students at KS1, KS2 and KS3 and with their GCSE, Standard Grade and Higher exam preparation. Onion Street is a school work support site for 11-16 year olds. Students can chat to other young people about school work or just chill out.
E2BN Gallery
I am always nervous when asking students to research on the web, especially at home when supervision isn't always available. Point your students in the direction of the E2BN Gallery, it's a collection of images, video and audio that have been uploaded by other education professionals, checked by a real person and made available free for educational use. If you have any good photographs, video or audio that might be useful to other teachers, there is an upload option. Myths and Legends
Another teaching resource that can be accessed from home or school. Myths and Legends is a website for pupils, teachers and all those who enjoy stories and storytelling. The British Isles is rich in myths, folktales and legends. Almost every town, city and village in Britain has its own special story, be it a Celtic legend, Dark Age mystery, strange happening or fable. Create your own Myth or Legend using the amazing Story Creator or enjoy other people's work. Students can work on a story at school, save it to the website and access it for further work at home. Artisancam
ArtisanCam provides an insight into the lives of contemporary artists. Using a mixture of video and interactive activities, it introduces students to the world of contemporary visual art before encouraging them to have a go themselves in fun and exciting ways. The website is divided into the Artists Zone, which contains classroom-based activities and the Activity Zone, which is full of games and fun interactive activities, designed to encourage children to continue their learning at home.
Wonderville
Wonderville is a virtual town created to spark the interest of children and give them a greater appreciation of science. A place where you can try science experiments, find cool science facts, download screensavers and learn more about careers in science. Zipping around Wonderville on your hover board just like Marty McFly this is fun for adults and children alike. The visual style is very much like the Simpsons and you won't believe that this is a flash application running within your web browser, and of course it's free! Primary Resources
I would not make it through the week without this website and its seemingly endless supply of ready made worksheets, lesson plans and ideas. Resources come in the form of PDFs, Word documents, Excel sheets, Powerpoint shows and SmartBoard charts. ARKive
ARKive is a beautiful collection of images and videos showing life on earth in all its beauty, splendour and cruelty. It's a great starting point for students and teachers research. I often use images and video clips from this site to inspire the children in their literacy and to promote speaking and listening skills. Newsround
This news site for children has all the power and integrity of the BBC behind it, so you know that it's going to be good. The stories are relevant to children but never patronising All the links you need to visit the free teaching resources above!

Five things your children need to know BEFORE they go on the web
Arm your children with the knowledge they need to stay safe on the web. You can set up all of the blocking software you like on your home computer, but what happens when they visit a friend's house?

- The internet is a fascinating tool opening our worlds up and bringing people together. Of courss, if we aren't careful, we open our homes to undesirable people and groups. Most of the people you meet online will be friendly and helpful, but you need to protect your family against the others.
