No one can compare to the prince who wears a medallion on his chest!

Who is Prince Planet?
Prince Planet is a 12 year old boy from the far away planet, Radion. Sent to Earth to determine if Earth was worthy of joining the Galactic Union of Worlds, Prince Planet spends a year living with Pops and Diana Worthy on their farm disguised as Bobby. Over the course of that year Prince Planet makes many new friends and helps the people of Earth fight against the evil doers out there.

In the end Prince Planet returns home and with the lessons he learned on Earth with his friends he recommends that Earth be allowed to join Galactic Union. After all, the good people outweigh the bad people, especially since Prince Planet has done away with several of the worst.

Prince Planet on Earth
When Prince Planet arrives on Earth he lives with Diana and Pop Worthy and adopts the Earth identity of Bobby. As a normal boy he has no special powers other than his intelligence. He gains his super powers from his Pendant when he holds it and yells Piiiiii Pazow!!

The Pendant
Prince Planet's PendantPrince Planet's pendant is powered by radiation beamed to him from Radion. When the pendant runs down Prince Planet loses his powers until it is recharged. Something that to mysteriously happen every single episode.

The pendant's powers:
1. The pendant has the power to turn Prince Planet in to a normal Earth boy, Bobby, and back again.

2. Atomic Conversion Unit; using the power of his pendant Prince Planet can transform items. In one episode he uses it to turn a helicopter engine in to a giant drill.

3. The pendant can protect Bobby automatically in the case of large explosions. But it drains the pendant and leaves him unconscious until it can be recharged by the radiation transmitter on Radion.

Origin

Prince Planet is probably the first cartoon I really remember watching religiously. I used to run home from school to catch episodes on TV on Channel 44 in Chicago. We even started a Prince Planet club in school.

Prince Planet was originally aired in Japan in 1965 and 1966 under the name Yuusei Shonen Papii. Only 52 episodes were made and all were in black and white.

Retitled Prince Planet for the US market, it aired as late as 1976 on tv in the Chicago area on channel 44. I can clearly remember running all the way home just to get to the tv first. Little sisters can be so annoying.

Some people think that one of the reasons Prince Planet didn't continue after the first 52 episodes was the violence in the show. Almost every show ended with Prince Planet killing the bad guy. I think it has more to do with the fact that it was black and white and color was making a huge jump in the market in the late 60s early 70s.

There is still hope among those of us that love all things old that it will finally be released on DVD. But I'm not holding my breath.

Prince Planet Episodes

on Hulu

Finally, all 47 episodes of Prince Planet have been uploaded to Hulu. You do have to sit through a few commercials to watch them, but the quality is pretty decent for a 40 year old show.

    Hey Feydakin..
The only t-shirt I have seen was from an artwork contest that ended about a year ago.. Naturally, I came across this competition about 11months after it had ended.
It was a promo giveaway for Prince Planet coming to Hulu and Youtube. I guess MGM owns the rights to PP now.
I got so excited when I saw this t-shirt on this guy!!!

I couldn't find it anywhere online though...
Sometimes you can find PP items on ebay too. I will keep you posted if I find any interesting tid-bits!

You did such a great job putting this together, THANKS!
I remember Prince Planet very well! Because in kindergarten... I WAS PRINCE PLANET! (At least I thought I was...) My Mom used to call me Peter Planet. I would run home after a.m. kindergarten in time to catch Speed Racer AND Prince Planet back to back. Even at at that young age.. I knew there was something special and extra magical about that type of animation. (Our standard issue American cartoons were so flat and boring to me.) That was 1973, and I would watch it on Channel 44 in Chicago. I was soooo obsessed at 5yo with Prince Planet, that my poor cat and dog routinely had to wear cut-out drawings of Prince Planet's power-pendent made out of paper.. and be flown around the house screaming Paaaa-ZOOWWW!!!!!!!! That pendent.. THAT PENDENT! I had to have that PENDENT!! Anybody know where you can get Prince Planet T-Shirts??
