Princess And The Pea Party

Every little girl loves a princess party, but the pink dress and tiara princess party has been done and over done. Give your little one a princess party with a twist - a Princess and the Pea Party. Whenever the Princess and the Pea story is depicted, it has a earthy crunchy feel to it - much more casual then the Sleeping Beauty feel.

A Princess and the Pea birthday could make for a fun party that stands out as a little different than all the rest. A Princess and the Pea slumber party would be a blast. The princess in this story is not going off to a ball, and she is going off to bed.

Princess Pea Party Games

How Many? - Decorate a jar with lace and ribbons and fill it up with dried peas. The girls guess how many peas they think are in the jar. You can have a small prize to give away to the winning guess.

I Spy - Divide the group into teams, and give each team a jar. The jars are to be filled the same way, several various small objects and then filled with dried peas. Have the teams "spy" as many of the objects in the jar as possible. They may need to shake the jar to bring the items to the sides. The team with the most correct guesses after a set amount of time wins.

Find the Pea - Have the girls form a circle. In the center of the circle there is a stack of mattresses (small blankets or pieces of fabric will do). Between two of the mattresses put a green circle of paper (the pea). While music plays, the girls will pass an object around the circle - like a princess wand, or a balloon, or a ball. When the music stops, the girl with the item gets to take a mattress off the stack. The girl who reveals the pea wins.

At last, the true story behind the Princess and the Pea! (Come on, did you really think a princess could feel a pea through 20 mattresses?) In this retelling of the classic fairy tale we're finally presented with the pea's-eye view. This fresh green perspective allows us to see that the tiny legume held lofty expectations from the early days in the pod. We also learn something we suspected all along--the whole thing went down a little differently than rumors held. (One can imagine a whole line of revisionist fairy tales recast from the eyes of crucial inanimates--the beanstalk, the glass slipper, the red riding hood.)
