What Little Girl Doesn't Want a Princess Party?
It seems that females of any age, whether they are little girls, teens, young, middle-aged, or senior women, are fascinated by the concept of a princess themed party. As a middle-aged woman myself, I can assure you that I still get excited at the idea of wearing a tiara, living in a castle, and of course being married to my Prince Charming.
Luckily for those of us with little girls we can live vicariously through them and plan the perfect princess party for them. Whether it's a birthday party, summer swim party or a tea party, we know everyone's going to have fun! I wish when I was a little girl all the awesome stuff had existed that you can now get for a princess party.
I'm going to tell you about as much of it as possible, but don't get overwhelmed. You don't need to have all these things to make your princess party a great success and most important, make your little princess extremely happy. Just make sure to involve her in the planning of her party, 'cause that's half the fun of it.

Planning the Princess Party
Start 1 month before the party
In order to make the party the best it possibly can be, it takes planning. Here's a guideline to go by for the different milestones in the advance preparation:
1. Decide which princess. Does your little one have a favorite princess and want just her as the theme of the party, or does she love any and every princess? This will determine things like which invitations, dinnerware, and decorations to order. Amazingly, you can pretty much get anything you want specifically for any of the Disney princesses, including the new one, Tiana.
2. How many guests will there be? A good rule of thumb is to take the age of the birthday girl and add one to arrive at a good number of guests. So if she's 5, 6 guests would be a manageable number. Another good idea is to figure on having at least 1 adult helping with the party for every 6 kids.
3. Figure out the date of the party. Take into account the schedules of the guest's parents and any family or friends that will be attending. Figure on the party running 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

The Cake

As gorgeous as this Wilton Romantic Castle Cake is, it's not for a beginner baker. But if you're up for a challenge and you'd like to try your hand at a beautiful hand crafted princess castle cake, then go for it.
Keep in mind It doesn't have everything you will need in this kit, so be prepared to supplement with cake pans, dowels, fondant, a flower making kit, etc. You can see the entire list and instructions at http://www.wilton.com/idea/The-Princess-Address.
If you're not quite up to this much of a committment to a cake, you might be better off purchasing one from a bakery or grocery store or going with cupcakes. If you decide to do cupcakes, you can let the girls decorate their own as a party activity.

Here's a Gorgeous Homemade Castle Cake
This mom describes her cake as: Fondant cake with styrofoam turrets covered in fondant. Ice cream cone towers and the larger turret is gum paste. All toy disney princesses. Party Favors
It seems nowadays a party isn't complete unless there's a little something (or in some cases, a big something) for the guests to take home with them as a memento of the party.
Don't go crazy on these. Remember, it's your little girl's big day, not the guest's. And you'd be amazed how little you can spend and still give away really great favors to all the guests.

This Princess Favor Value Pack is only $10 and has just about everything you could want. It includes 48 pieces, which is a set of all the goodies for 8 little girls.
It has 8 plastic loot bags, 8 blue star wands, 8 paper tiaras, 4 pink necklaces, 4 purple necklaces, 4 pink bracelets, 4 purple bracelets, 4 pink rings and 4 purple rings.

What To Do At The Party
#1 Priority - HAVE FUN!
1. Glitter Makeovers
2. Pin the crown on the princess
3. Unicorn races
4. Pictures with the Birthday Girl
5. Decorate princess cupcakes
6. Dress up in princess gowns and accessories
7. This might be a bit over the top, but I was thinking if you invested the $170 for this great Inflatable Princess Bouncer, you could maybe share the expense with friends who will want to use it for their little girl's princess party. Or how about if you start a business with it? Rent it out for $25 and you'll have it paid for in no time.

8. Try this game that dates back to the late 19th century. They used to play it at the glamorous balls that the wealthy people threw in Newport, Rhode Island. Of course they played it a little differently than you will, they were playing with real gemstones.
To set up the game, get a deep bowl and fill it with clean sand (you can get a bag of this at Home Depot). Then mix in rhinestone jewel rings until they are hidden. To play the game, have each guest grap a handful of sand. She gets to keep whatever ring she comes up with. Keep playing until every little princess has gotten a ring.

Photo Op

Have the birthday girl pose beside this group of princesses with each of her guests. Snap a pic of each one and print it out at the party for each little girl to take home.

Or if you're ready to go all out and cover an entire wall with princesses, consider this 8' Disney Princess Giant Decorating Set.
The set includes 2 Room Rolls (each 4' high x 12' wide) and 4 Add-On Sheets (each 33.5" wide x 65" high).
