Candle in the Wind -- Princess Diana
I was deeply-saddened that night in August 1997, along with millions of others, when we received the news of Princess Diana's death. I can only think of a couple of other instances that touched me in that manner -- John F. Kennedy and John F. Kennedy, Jr. are two that come immediately to mind.
Why is it that certain famous people's deaths can have such an impact on our lives that we remember precisely what we were doing when we first heard the news?
I know with Princess Diana, I didn't sleep well that night thinking I'd wake in the morning to here the news that she would be OK, although seriously injured. It took awhile to fully grasp the finality that she would no longer be with us.

- Great lens - I remember as a kid my mom calling me at 5am to watch the wedding on tv live.
I'm just finishing off her butler's book " A royal duty"...started it about 2 years ago and then lost the book, I've since found it (I had packed it up with a bunch of other books) ...interesting "inside" read.

- A very good lens. I may have been one of the last people to hear the news: I was on a remote island in the Indonesian archipelago and only found out on my way home to England. The atmosphere in Britain had certainly dramatically changed during the two weeks that I had been away. A very sad time.
