Printable Christmas Games for Kids - and their Adults... Download or Make Your Own
Children Learn By Play, and What Better Time Than During the Christmas Holiday Season - They Won't Even Know They're Learning!
The holiday season is traditionally a time of great expectations, fun-filled family-oriented gatherings, and great anticipation and huge excitement at the forthcoming Christmas festival. Whether you celebrate Christmas in the traditional way or otherwise, children will get caught up in the excitement of recounting the birth of Baby Jesus, singing well-known carols and songs, watching wide-eyed at yet one more Christmas DVD.
In the Northern Hemisphere where winter has approached, families will be looking for fun indoor activities to while away a lazy afternoon, or as an appetizer to a children's Christmas party. In the Southern Hemisphere where a scorching African summer is in full force and the 6 week long Christmas Holiday is upon us - along with a sometimes very rainy season - parents will be looking for something to occupy little minds and hands out of the midday sun.
Together with my children I devised and compiled some fun printable Christmas games that are easy to download, easy to print and easy to assemble. The easiest - and most fun part - is playing the games, which can be used only for little people, or can be turned into an entire family feast of competition...
If in Africa pull out the soft drinks, make some healthy filling snacks and get the party started! If in the North, marshmallows floating in a steaming mug of hot cocoa will do just fine... the choice is yours.. whichever way, you'll have a really memorable time... :)

Pictionary is a fun family-oriented game with rules that are easy to follow
Pictionary is a classic game of drawing and guessing pictures. This game works great with large groups as an icebreaker, as well as simply a fun game to play on a lazy Sunday afternoon with friends.
Of course if you are able to draw or sketch you'll be zooming ahead to the finish before anyone else, but if, like me, you really aren't very good there'll be a lot of laughter and giggling at the attempts. The game is almost based on a type of Charades Game, a classic game of drawing and guessing pictures. The game is ideal for groups of people, and a perfect addition to a Christmas gathering of family and friends.
Our Christmas Pictionary categories are:
* Song (or sub-categories Poem, Carol, Traditional, Modern, Funny etc)
* Book (or Story)
* Film (or sub-categories TV, Movies)
* Gift (or sub-categories Mum, Dad, Granny, Boy, Girl, Baby etc)
*Object (or sub-category Accessories, Decorations, Things)
Blank cards are included for you to make your own categories and write your own words and titles if you choose to.
This unit contains 434 individual Cards in 7 different categories, color-coded for each category, and can easily be sorted for children aged around 4 and upwards. Adults will also be drawn into the game trying to figure out names of old-time movies, characters, songs and stories. Full rules and instructions on how to make your own game included.

So then... what's in the stocking?
Don't want to download and print? Make Your Own :)
Ages: 8 and up.
Recommended Number of Players: Teams of 3 or more people.
Materials required: Several sheets or two large pads of paper, note-cards, pens, a stopwatch/timer. Don't forget the prizes.
Recommended setting: Indoors.
Kids will have fun making up their own game cards... the sky's the limit :)
Setup
In advance, a judge (someone who is not playing) should prepare several words written on individual notecards. These are the words that will be drawn, and that teammates will try to guess. Each word(s) should be labeled as one of the following five categories (or be creative and come up with other ones):
-Person, Place, Animal - A person, place, animal, or other creature that is/was living (e.g. Santa, an elf, Mrs Claus).
-Action - Something that can be done or performed (e.g. Wrapping presents, eating, dancing).
-Object - Something that can be seen or touched (e.g. a present, Christmas tree, snowflake).
-Challenge - Something difficult (e.g. Q: Where does Santa live? A: Lapland, North Pole).
-All play - A word from any of the above categories. Both teams draw simultaneously.
After the judge finishes preparing several cards, he or she shuffles the pile. You are now ready to play!
How to Play
Divide the group into teams of at least three. Give each team a name. Distribute a large pad (or sheets) of paper and a pen to each group. (Instead of paper, you can also draw on chalkboards or whiteboards). Decide which team goes first.
On a team's turn, they choose someone to draw. The judge prepares a one-minute timer (or stopwatch) and gives the player a card. The judge says "Go!" and starts the timer. The player begins to draw a picture of the word(s). The goal is for the team to correctly guess the word (or basic idea of the word) within the allotted time limit. If the team correctly guesses the word, they receive a point. Then it's the next team's turn.
Rules
-The artist may not make any hand gestures or audible noises.
-The pictures drawn cannot have any numbers or letters.
-After a team member successfully says part of the word(s) on the card,
Variations
-In the original Pictionary game, if the team or player correctly guesses what's been drawn, they go again.
-You can use a standard 6-sided dice to determine which category a team must draw from. For example, 1: Person, Place, or Animal 2: Action, 3: Object, 4: Challenge, 5: All Play, 6: Wild (you choose) or you can have pre-determined categories.
-Instead of having a judge prepare the clues in advance, you can have each player write a few clues in the beginning and then shuffle them all up.
WHAT TO DO:
Print all game cards onto card-stock. (A variety of pastel colors will make a cheerful game). Laminate for protection and durability. Have a suitable container available for storage purposes. Cut out game cards carefully. Have loads of fantastic prizes for winners! Shuffle all cards and get ready to play!

Christmas Phonics, Scrabble Word Game for Little Folks
This game gives a whole new twist on the traditional board game of Scrabble. OR You can make your own...
Teaching your child phonics and phonemic awareness needn't be dull and uninteresting. From a very early age your child will begin to recognize the shape and sound of letters, and be able to sound and associate the correct words to pictures shown. Once your child has learned the alphabet a whole new world of fun learning experiences opens up to him or her.I devised this Letter Tile game which worked wonderfully for my children when they were younger, and who, after successfully "spelling" out simple Dolch words with the letter tiles, pushed their own envelopes and sounded letters and words to pictures, thereby gaining awareness of more complex words and far advancing their initial knowledge. And the kids didn't even know they were learning!
I have included 215 picture cards, all with a Christmas Theme, blank cards with instructions on how to make your own, a storage envelope and 2 sheets of letter tiles, both upper and lower case, as well as educator notes on the importance of phonics and phonemic awareness.
