The Growing Need For Printable Tarot Cards?

There is a new growing trend in making your own tarot decks using printable tarot cards.

But the question is why would you go to the troubles of printing a tarot deck when there are so many decks available online to buy.

Well, I have a few such printable tarot decks at home and one of the reasons for creating my own deck was because the actual deck was OOP (out of print). You could not buy it online anymore.

Or you might want to unleash your creativity and simply draw on your plain cards or creating collages of cards that allow you to bring into play you own, more personal card meanings interpretations.

Another reason is that you might want to give somebody a handmade gift. Many people appreciate such gifts as opposed to getting something from the store.

Whatever your reason, creating printable tarot cards is a great way to get a new tarot deck for yourself or for a friend or family member as a personal token of love and care.

So here you will learn the best places to find interesting, popular and wacky tarot deck pictures that you can print out for your own decks. Also you will learn how to create these decks, what materials and tools you need and anything that will help you get the best results in the process.

When you see a deck you like, simply click on the big picture to go through to that website. Just don't forget to come back and leave your comments on how you found your experience with that deck!

All these places are FREE. You should not have to pay anything for printing out the pictures from those sites.

Blank Tarot Cards To Start Your Collection

blank tarot cardsThese are some big blank tarot cards that can be used as printable cards to make your own favorite deck.

They have the right size for a tarot deck, so if you're looking instead of printable regular sized play cards, these will not work that well (the size is larger than that of the average play cards).

Where To Start With Printable Tarot Cards

To start creating your printable tarot deck, you need a couple of things:

* A blank tarot deck (the most popular one seems to be from US Games Systems and you can find it cheaply at Amazon - see the link above or click here)
* A set of tarot images from a deck that you want printed
* Some scrapbooking supplies to glue the images to the blanks, such as fixatives such as some spray glue.
* if you can afford it, a card laminator machine to laminate your cards for extra sturdiness and protection (and let's face it, the laminated cards look nicer and more professional as well!)

You can either do the job yourself, or simply check around who is doing nearby digital printing in color. These days printing on card stock or glossy cards is quite cheap and it might save you from some of the problems when you print them yourself. Depending on the paper you use to print your pictures, you might get bleeds through the card and smudges that simply don't dry fast enough.

Note: Don't confuse printable tarot cards with print on demand tarot decks, which are used for self-publishing.

Creating Your Own Tarot Decks With Printable Tarot Cards

printable tarot decksWhen you have everything ready, this is how you create your own deck

Note: There are several ways to create tarot decks, this is just the way I go about it. You can do it any other way you prefer.

1. Save the printable tarot cards to your computer. Avoid printing directly from the browser as you might end up with some weird and unwanted results (trust me on this)

2. Print out the tarot cards on your chosen paper. Make sure that you print them in the standard tarot deck size. If you're not sure that the size is right, do a test print of one card so you don't destroy the entire paper.

3. Carefully trim the edges of the cards - some people like rounded edges, so make sure you have enough place for the borders.

4. If you printed the images on regular paper and want a paper backing, then you need to use spray adhesive to glue the paper to the actual cards.

5. Once the cards are printed, let them dry and then seal them with a varnish spray

6. I have a small laminator machine from the times I was creating bookmarks for fun, so I use this gadget to laminate my cards. These days the laminators are quite affordable, and if you find yourself creating lots of tarot decks, you might want to invest in it.

Check out below for some laminators I recommend from Amazon

Different Editions Of The Same Cards

Are you curious how the various editions of the same cards (say the Rider Waite deck) look, put next to each others? For example how the different Fools or Suns are depicted across decks before you go out and buy your own deck? This is another reason why you might want to be looking at various online tarot deck images.

See some examples below.

The Fool In The Different Rider Waite Smith Decks

The Fool

The Rider Waite Smith deck is undoubtedly the most well known tarot deck. But which deck should you get? Which edition? Which version? What best way than to see a comparison, side by side, of different decks and decide after which one you are mostly drawn to?

Home Made Printable Tarot Cards

While it is fun to recreate your own copies of existing tarot decks, how about getting some interesting home made tarot cards, designed by people like you and me who wanted to give interesting meanings to their readings? Some of these are certainly worth looking through.

Some are depicting Hollywood actors, others Barbie dolls, yet others cartoon characters. Usually the images are quite sharp, crisp and easy to print so you won't have problems creating your own decks from your favorite images - and collages.

The Uncarrot Tarot Deck

This is one of my favorite home made tarot decks ever. Really sweet images of pencils that not only makes you smile (or giggle) but also lets you give some great meanings to your card readings. Recommended.
