How To Print The Flash Cards:

Find the Free Printable Flashcards you want starting here: Printable Flashcards For Preschoolers

All Flashcard sheets print out on 8.5x11" paper size.

Find the Flashcard sheet you desire to save for printing. Right click with your mouse and choose "Save As.."

You will then need to name the file and store it on your PC computer or MAC computer where you can find it later.

You can then open any of your saved files and right click them and select "Print"

Keep in mind that some Flashcard printables are going to use more colored ink than others.

Keeping your Flashcards looking good & storing them.

Printable Flashcards for Preschoolers-Making them Last:

Ok, so you now have your printable flashcards saved and printed.

You may want to take the 8.5x11" printed sheet and mount it to some bristol board or to some box board material for a stiff, durable backing to your flashcards.

Simply apply a thin, even layer of Aylmers School Glue or Craft glue over the entire back of the free printable flashcard sheet. Apply it to some bristol board and let it dry.

When finished you could laminate the sheet if you desire. Laminating will make your flashcards last for a long time.

If laminating, be sure to use ONLY a Glue Stick to glue the sheet to the bristol board. Other Glues melt when laminating and make a mess of your project.

You want to use an exacto knife or a pair of scissors to cut out each flash card to the same size.

Fun Flashcard Idea:

You could hot glue 1 popsicle stick to the backing of each flashcard for an easy to use handle to show each flashcard.

Storing Your Flashcards:

You should store your free printable flashcards for preschoolers in a large envelope or container so they are readily accessible and you do not lose them.

Color Flashcards Tip (As shown in the flashcard image):

While these flashcards can be printed on a computer, you may want to make your own colorful flashcards that are similar using other materials and saving your printer ink.

Use Colored Construction Paper:

You can save your printer ink by simply cutting out the colors into squares or smaller circles and the glueing it on to another base material such as bristol board etc. This way you don't waste your ink printing too much color. Construction paper and bristol board is nice and durable and you can then have it laminated to last a life time.

You could even write the colors name on the front or on the back of the flashcard. Great ideas for the preschool and homeschooling classroom.

Think outside the Box for Different Kinds of Flashcards

Alphabet FlashcardsTraditional style flashcards usually simply involve an image on the front of a card and maybe the answer or a different image or word on the back. These work great for teaching different subjects and topics to your children or preschoolers.

Have you ever thought of making your Flashcards different or unique? If you are making your own printable flashcards for kids then here are a few simple ideas for making unique style flashcards for your classroom or child.

You can use objects like styrofoam plates (yes, the throw away style of plates which you eat from), or you can use juice lids from the paper frozen juice containers. Finally, you can try using popsicle sticks.

We will elaborate on these below and how you can use these items with your printable flashcards for preschoolers and children.

Flashcards for Kids Using Styrofoam Plates

Flashcards for Kids using Stykrofoam Plates & Other awesome flashcard ideas!Flashcards are excellent teaching tools for educating children. If you are printing images or cutting images out of magazines, flyers etc. Here is a terrific NEW way in which you can use those images to make some truly unique flashcards on ANY subjetct you like.

Are you familiar with paper plates? Of course you are they are great for making dinner time clean up a snap when you have friend or family over for supper.

You must also be familiar then with the 'styrofoam plates' that are availble. The styrofoam plates are quite a bit more firm and sturdy.

Get yourself some small to medium sized styrofoam plates and you can glue 'larger images' or 'words' on each plate on the front and on the back.

These Flashcard plates will last a long time and can be easily stacked and stored.

Any topic or subject can be used for these Flashcard plates. This is just another unique way to make NEW flashcards for teaching your children and preschoolers.

Here is an Example Flashcard Idea:

Cut out pictures or find images of fruits, vegetables or other food related items, like different types of groceries.

Try pasting these images each to a different styrofoam plate.

On the back of each Flashcard plate, you could then put the appropriate word spelled out like 'APPLE' etc..

So there you have it. A unique way for anyone to make unique flashcards that will last a long time in teaching children & preschoolers.

Shapes Flashcards for Children

Who says all flashcards were created equal?

Shapes Flashcards for Teaching preschoolers & Kindergarten children in the classroom or at home.Sure, you could just print out the Shapes flashcards as found on some of our websites and resources which we have listed on this lens, however, there are other unique ways this can be done as well.

Bristol Boad & Construction Paper:

Why not try cutting out the shapes using bristol boad or heavy contruction paper. You can start by picking the color or colors you want to use for each flashcard. Use a large stencil or draw the shapes on the paper using a pencil. By using pencil you can easily erase mistakes with an eraser.

You can draw the shapes freehand, or fine objects to trace to make perfect outlines of your shapes, (eg.) trace a small plate for a circle, trace a small box for a square etc.

The Shapes:

Shapes you may want to cut out would be square, rectangle, circle, triangle, oval, diamond, heart, star etc.

Cutting the Shape Flashcards Out:

Using scissors, you can now cut out each shape flashcard you have made. You can use them as they are, especially if they are rigid enough to hold up and display, or you may need to glue them to a stronger more rigid material.

Depending on the size of your shapes, you may want to even hot glue popsicle sticks to the back of each one to use for holding each card up. Obviously if you go this route, you want to have the shapes flashcard cutouts at a small enough size.

2 Flashcards in One:

Not only can you make the shape cutouts for your flashcards, but if you want to essentially make 2 flashcards in one you could make them each a different color.

So, you could make a circle cut out from blue bristol board or contruction paper, a square out of red, etc.

By doing this you can have the preschoolers or kindergarten children identify the color and the shape shown. This is just another way to make things more creative, think out the box and have fun.

Unique & Creative Flashcards Made Easy!

'Handy' flashcards for kids that can be used to make learning fun & unique!Creativity makes learning & teaching fun for everyone! Here is a simple, unique idea for making some fun flashcards to use with your kids or preschool classroom.

Make some flashcards using your own hands-literally!

Here's what you are going to need for this fun Flashcard idea.

What You Need for the 'Handy Flashcards':<

  • Get some colorful construction paper, or colorful bristol board
  • Scissors
  • Pencil or chalk for tracing
  • Popsicle sticks
  • Hot glue or adhesive


    • What To Do:

    Pick out some fun colorful bristol board or construction paper. Lay it flat on a table or hard flat surface.
    Place your hand flat on the bristol board or construction paper.

    Then using your free hand, trace fully around your hand aas well as all fingers.

    When done tracing your hand you can go on to trace more hands to make copies or use this one as a template to cut out more and more 'Handy Flashcards'.

    So what you will have is severall copies of your hand traced on bristol board or construction paper. Be sure to pick different colors a nd make it fun and colorful.

    Once you have all your flashcard hands cut out, you can add what ever you want to the palm area of your hand cutout.

    For example: You could add images for children to identify, math problems, words, shapes etc.

    You can add anything that you want to use to teach the children.

    You can of course use a glue stick or glue of somesort to place the images or simply print words in Black permanent marker (just be careful not to make a mistake!)

    What Next:

    When you are finsihed with all the above you could laminate these 'Handy Flashcards' to make them last forever.

    You could also hotglue the popsicle sticks on the backs of these fun handy flashcards to make the flashcards easy to hold and display to the children.
