The Power of a Simple Greeting Card

Greeting cards have been around for more than 200 years. Some of the first cards were sent by Egyptians on papyrus scrolls and until the early 1800's were mostly sent by the wealthy. Cards of long ago were fine pieces of art, many hand painted on quality paper.

When the postage stamp was introduced in 1840, this slowly changed and more people used the greeting card method of communications. By 1850, greeting cards became a trendy and inexpensive means of sending a salutation mostly for major holidays.

A greeting card is defined as a folded card decorated by an illustration and highlighted with various greetings or other sentiments usually in an envelope. Today, more than 80% are mailed. Others are mostly hand delivered.

Greeting cards have come a long way in the last two centuries evolving into a billion dollar industry. People stand at a card rack as long as an hour selecting just the right card with the perfect sentiment. Now, you're able to include your own photo on the cards accompanied by your voice or song, or both.

There are few occasions you can't find a card for. Of course, the most popular are for birthdays, Christmas, Valentine's Day, and Mothers' and Fathers' day, not to overlook those for Thank You, Thinking of You and just to say hello. The unusual range from Milkshake Day, UFO Day to Plant a Tree Day. Inspirational and patriotic themes are now also very popular.

Industry leaders say caring people will always send
greeting cards to stay in touch with family and friends. After all, how can you spend so little to send something so powerful to inspire its recipient to smile, laugh or cry?

What Is an eCard?

It was inevitable with the advent of the computer and email that someone would envision an ecard. No one person claims that honor but by 1996, on Valentine's Day, eCards gained enough popularity to be offered by various on line companies.

An eCard is similar to a regular greeting card but is sent digitally instead of using paper and the U. S. Postal Service thus being considered more environmentally friendly. They are usually sent via email.

Digital eCards offer more versatility than traditional paper greeting cards although both offer many options. The sender can personalize the eCard by composing a message and adding a photo.

He can choose from hundreds of stock cards on line or make up one himself.

If you're a member of an eCard company, give them the recipient's information and click send. You can also elect to send it at a later date, to more than one person, re-send it and even track the progress of your eCard.

Flash animation is also available which often has a cartoon style character, a sound track with speech and music. The animated card is usually less than 30 seconds in duration and can be quite realistic.

This is a very common format used today to convey the sentiment of the sender. It's been said that flash animation is used to say the words the sender is not able to say.

The cost of sending these eCards is nominal or free and varies from e-company to e-company. Some charge by the month and some an annual fee. Annual fees can be as low as 9.95, with monthly charges around $3.

The recipient simply receives an email message that someone has sent them an eCard and is instructed on how to retrieve it. You can provide the company with a calendar and address book. They do all the work at the proper time and you get all the credit.

A Quick Review of Send Out Cards

Greeting cards are a joy to receive and also fun and easy to send. You can choose between a regular paper greeting card and an eCard. But, if you want the best of both worlds perhaps Send Out Cards is for you.

A Send Out Card is a printed card that's sent to the person of your choice. But, you don't go to all the trouble of going to a card store, addressing the envelope and mailing it yourself.

You're much too busy for that! Simply go online, choose a card, write a message in your own handwriting and click send. This can be done in less than 60 seconds. The card is sent first class and should arrive at its destination within 2 to 7 days in the United States.

If you prefer not to include a message they can write one for you and you sign it in your own handwriting. You can even include a gift card and really make it special. Send Out Cards says it's a "concept and service that's changing lives."

It matters to be remembered and some individuals and organizations are using this method to send cards to troops overseas. This is not only for personal use but also for businesses to remember and thank their clients.

No doubt, it helps to stay in touch with the client and show that he's appreciated and remembered. A picture of your client can also be enclosed. These cards are used to motivate, encourage and provide an uplifting message.

It's a system that can pay for itself in goodwill and extra business generated. Greeting cards make a difference to both the sender and the recipient. Some say it's the sender who benefits most.
