Originally, postcards are decorated only by hand-drawn cartoons, pictures and arts that represent a certain area's symbol, landmark or even a family's trademark estate. These were rare and expensive and were known back then as court cards, mostly because they belong to the court of rich families and are sent only amongst rich families. The sizes of postcards were specified and so was the thickness, mostly to enable the postal services to deliver them effectively as letters. But as technology advanced and printing services became available, print postcards changed their looks entirely.
