Traditional Photo Stores

You can still take your photographs to a photo store for developing. The only difference is that films are not anymore used. You just need to bring with you your digital camera or memory card, and the photo shop will print your photos for you. Even supermarkets are providing quality print services now.

An advantage of photo stores is that they use highly advanced machines you might not have at home. In addition, they know a lot of tips and tricks to make your photos appear at their best. Plus, the photo store has the capability to edit your photos if you feel that it does not suit your taste. You only have to give the specific instructions and they will do the rest.

With home printers, you do not have to wait in line for your photos to be printed. All that is needed is for your camera to be plugged in directly to your computer. From there, you can print the photos in no time.

The only drawback in home printers is that you have no other choice of printing process to use. The printed copies will depend on the kind of printing that you use.

Basic Tips For Getting Great Prints From Your Digital Camera

Shoot with printing in mind

Image resolution refers to the number of pixels in an image. Measured in megapixels (MP), matching the resolution to the print size will help you get crisp and clear digital photo prints.

Most digital cameras offer a range of resolution settings, but if you intend to make prints larger than wallet size, shoot at a higher resolution. While high-res pictures take up more space on your digital camera's memory card, shooting big guarantees that when the magic strikes, you've captured the picture at the highest quality level. And it gives you the most flexibility. So whether you want to crop the picture to highlight a special feature or print at a large size, you'll have plenty of detail to work with.

How high should you shoot? A 4-6 MP photograph should be high enough to produce a good quality print in popular 4"x6" or for 5"x 7" prints.

Digital Photo Printing - The New Revolution

Digital photo printing has revolutionized the way photo printing is done. There is no use if you keep storing all the images you shot on your digital camera on the computer hard disk or on the memory card. To enjoy them more you need to print out those photographs. It will be a great idea to see all those fantastic digital pictures as hard copy or printed photographs. Let us now see how we could go about digital photo printing.

The fun part of digital photo printing is you can do it at home! But before that you need to consider the following that will get you started:

First buy a good printer. You don't need more than ink jet printer - at least six colors to start with.

Secondly, buy photo-editing software. Look for simple software under $100 that has more automatic features like color correction, brightness control; auto focus etc. next step is to get good quality paper. Don't compromise on this; invest in thick glossy paper which will give you high quality prints. Another important thing that you need to consider is the DPI or dots per inch. For normal 4 by 6 inches prints 300 dpi is adequate. For 5 by 7 or 8 by 10 you can go up to 600 dpi. Depending on your printer and software you may be able to print up to 1200 dpi, which is more than adequate.

What are digital picture frames and how do they work?

A relatively new product in the digital imaging industry is what has become known as the digital picture frame. These clever devices use a flat-panel TFT (usually just referred to as LCD) screen to electronically store and display digital photos, which can be transferred directly between the picture frame and your digital camera. They can be powered by either batteries or an AC adapter power supply that plugs into your mains wall socket, and are capable of storing between thirty and more than a thousand digital photos, depending on the frame, the size of the files, and the capacity of the memory card being used.

While most people are probably aware of the numerous advantages of digital photography, there have always been a few areas where modern digital imagery simply didn't offer what people wanted out of their photos. With only a slightly wider profile than a normal picture frame, a digital picture frame retains all the benefits of digital photography, combining them with the convenience and most of the features people liked about conventional paper photos.

Do More With Digital Photos Than Just Digital Photo Printing

When digital cameras were first introduced they were used mostly as digital replacement to film cameras. Users would shoot photos, print them and archive them in photo albums. As users became more sophisticated new ways to use digital photos were found. Here are a few.

The most basic thing you can do with a digital photo is print it and view it on paper or save it on a computer's hard disk and view it on the computer screen. There are however some other ways to use and enjoy digital photos - here are a few ideas:

Desktop photo wallpaper: Your computer desktop is a great place to display special photos. Setting a photo that you like as your desktop wallpaper allows you to view it every time you log on to your computer or have your application windows minimized or consume only part of the screen. You can also use software that allows you to choose a list of photos to rotate through as your desktop wallpaper: it can be done on a time basis (the photo is changed every X minutes, hours or days), or on a random basis (the photo is changed to a randomly chosen one every X minutes, hours or days).
